As 2022 finally comes to an end, more and more automotive publications and groups will be finalizing award shows, “Best of” lists, and their pick for high ranking greatness. Kia America has been doing a lot of this lately, especially with J.D. Power during its 2023 ALG Residual Awards. Kia had five models take home the gold with its best year-over-year improvement of any mass market brand. Expect awards every week as more groups pick their favorites, and this week, it’s the Hispanic Motor Press. The 2022 Kia EV6 and 2023 Kia Telluride have both been recognized as the best vehicles of the year for Hispanic consumers.

“Despite competing in a segment that’s exploding with several new EV options, the Kia EV6 manages to stand out thanks to its bold design, upscale interior, all-electric range, and tremendous value…The Kia Telluride also continues to reign supreme among SUVs with its luxurious yet boxy exterior design and beautiful cabin space.” – Ricardo Rodriguez-Long, president, Hispanic Motor Press

Hey now, that’s a MAJOR pro for Kia. It’s true, every automaker and automotive group is aiming to bring electrified vehicles – plug-in hybrid electric vehicles ({HEVs), electric vehicles (EVs) and battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) – to the auto market within the next few years. Culminating by the end of the decade, every automaker has plans to produce a number of BEVs by 2030, and Kia was sure to share its plans during its 2022 CEO Investor Day. Kia first started its plans to reign over the EV market with its Plan S Strategy , aiming to have sold 4 million units in 2030, obtaining a 6.6-percent global EV market share by 2025. The new goal is to launch at least two BEVs per year between 2023 and 2027 and have 14 new BEV models introduced into its lineup.

The Kia EV6 is the automaker’s first all-electric model with no gasoline predecessor, and so far, the EV has knocked it out of the park. See, most of Kia Corp vehicles that have a hybrid or plug-in hybrid variant come after the fact that a vehicle is successful. This happened with the Kia Optima, the Kia Sportage, and the Kia Sorento – they were on the market long before their electrified counterparts came to the market, and the first model to go straight to a hybrid model was the Kia Niro, the world’s first hybrid crossover. The Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid and Kia Niro EV followed, but the Kia EV6 is the first of its kind, riding on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).

With much success, the Kia EV6 has been making waves in the auto market and set up plenty of chances to further production. In fact, with parent group Hyundai Motor Group (HMG), Kia recently announced increased EV production by 2025 at the new Georgia HMG Metaplant. We expect the next all-electric vehicle to be the Kia EV9, an all-electric SUV that looks eerily close to the Kia Telluride , the other model to win an award during the 2022 Los Angeles Auto Show. Whereas the Hispanic Motor Press named the EV6 as the Best EV of the Year, the Telluride was crowned as the SUV of the Year. The winnings were decided by a jury panel of over 20 Hispanic automotive journalists, content creators, and industry influencers that judged each model on several key factors important to Hispanic consumers – overall design, comfort, safety, economy, handling, performance, functionality, infotainment integration, interior design, environmental impact, driver satisfaction, and price. Look for more winnings for Kia America as the year comes to a close. For now, you can find the Kia EV6 or the Kia Telluride at Miami Lakes Automall .
