Engine Type
Three engines are available for the 2024 Ram Heavy Duty. Standard power in all models comes from a 410-horsepower 6.4-liter V-8 engine, which generates 429 pound-feet of torque. It is paired with an excellent eight-speed automatic transmission. Notably, this is the only engine and transmission offered in the Power Wagon, exclusively available in four-wheel drive. However, every other trim is also offered with a 6.7-liter Cummins diesel inline-six engine with either rear- or four-wheel drive. Two variants of the diesel are available. The first is available in both 2500 and 3500 models, delivering 370 horsepower and producing 850 pound-feet of torque. The 400-horsepower high-output iteration, only available on the 3500, makes an astounding 1,075 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are backed by a six-speed automatic transmission.
What’s new for 2024?
The Ram Heavy Duty carries over from the 2023 model year unchanged, except that the Tailgate Ajar warning lamp is now standard equipment across the lineup.
Style
Exterior Features
It is not subtle, but the 2024 Ram Heavy Duty wears its full-size lines better than several of its competitors. The broad-shouldered front fascia gives way to a low-fuss profile and tailgate. In other words, these Heavy Duty Ram trucks possess a downright stylish appearance. Just how attractive depends on the trim, of which there are numerous. For example, Ram does a successful job differentiating between the work-oriented Tradesman trim and the luxurious Limited trim, with a series of trims in between.
Interior Features
As with most pickups, the Ram’s extensive number of trim levels and cab styles mean its interior materials, in-cabin technology features, and passenger space can vary widely in terms of quantity and quality. A single cab, a spacious four-door crew cab, and the large mega cab–which provides the largest rear seat in the class–are available. The Ram has the best interior in the segment with luxury-car-level detailing, a clean, contemporary design, and extreme comfort, while the highest trim levels offer premium materials. The top Longhorn trim even gets gold trim and striped wood on the dash, gauges, and doors, along with the Longhorn logo hand-branded into the wood on the truck’s upper glove box door.
Technology
Entertainment
Ram also packs its heavy-duty trucks with in-cabin technology, including the latest in infotainment. The Ram’s system is intuitive, with simple menus and prompts. To that end, it responds swiftly to user inputs, and its 8.0-inch touchscreen is large and well placed. Ram also offers a larger 12.0-inch reconfigurable touchscreen, which gives the truck’s interior a high-tech look and feel. Additionally, the system features navigation, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot.
Safety Features and Warranty
The 2024 Ram Heavy Duty trucks can be equipped with a long list of driver-assistance technology. These features range from available blind-spot monitoring to rear cross-traffic alert and automated emergency braking. More than that, there is available forward-collision warning and adaptive cruise control. The trucks also come outfitted with LED trailer hitch lights, Rear Seat Reminder Alert, and an Adaptive Forward Lighting System. As for warranty, Ram provides its two heavy-duty models with a competitive limited warranty of three years or 36,000 miles. While both its powertrain coverages span five years, gas-fed engines get 60,000 miles of protection while the diesel offers 100,000 miles.
