Kia K5 and Kia Sorento Win 2020 GOOD DESIGN Awards
When it comes to designing an automobile in the 21st Century, the look and feel of a vehicle is constantly changing. With so many automakers adding all kinds of tech to vehicles, the line between performance and sci-fi luxury begins to blend. As automakers expand and grow, so should the look of their vehicles based on technology and engineering and the new capabilities they offer. Steadily outpacing the industry is Kia Motors, an automaker with possibly the most alternative fuel vehicles making up its lineup, and on the way to holding a 25-percent market share of all electric vehicle sales by 2025, according to Plan S . With these new vehicles comes a new style, and current models in the lineup may be a good look at what’s to come. The Kia K5 and Kia Sorento recently won the 2020 GOOD DESIGN Awards.
Going on for 70 years, the GOOD DESIGN Awards is one of the oldest design competitions in the world. In the auto industry, automakers are constantly trying to come up with new looks and styles that will attract consumers and catch their attention. With constant competition, automakers need something that helps them stand out, and programs like the GOOD DESIGN Awards highlight vehicles for innovation and pushing the envelope for style in the marketplace. Kia Motors models continue to do so every year.
Both entering a new generation for the model, the Kia K5 is now going into its third generation for the sedan, once known as the Kia Optima in the North American market. Not to be confused, the Kia Optima was known as the K5 in the Korean market, and with the new generation comes a new name to fit the new look. The Kia Sorento is entering its fourth generation for 2021, and this SUV is starting to drive around the winner’s circle with the Kia Telluride and Kia Soul, having also won awards from GOOD Design in previous years.
Kia Motors has done all it can to show off the Kia K5 and Kia Sorento. To show off the performance of the new K5 sports car, advertisements on broadcast television, YouTube, and social media showcased recordings, and one live event, of a stunt driver doing something insane with the Kia K5. The Triple Threat Event was on live television, directed by Darrin Prescott and hosted by professional driver Collete Davis and actor Jeremy Ray Valdez, the stunt consisted of two Kia K5 vehicles flying over ramps while another performed a quick u-turn at high speeds. Driven by stunt drivers Sean Graham and father-daughter stunt driving duo Jalil Jay and Brionna Lynch, the Triple Threat was the first of many stunts Kia Motors put together to show off the performance of the Kia K5 . All of this performance is packaged in the iconic style of all Kia Motors vehicles, hallmarked by the ‘tiger nose’ grille. With new “heart beat” daytime running lights and a futuristic interior, the Kia K5 is becoming the new sports car everyone wants.
When the Kia Sorento first came out, there were plenty of highlights for the fourth-generation SUV. For 2021, the Sorento came with new powertrain options , three in total, one of which is a Kia-first, a new Turbo Hybrid Engine (HEV), found on the S and EX trims. The new 2021 Kia Sorento is also offering consumers plenty of tech options for the 2021 Kia Sorento with variations of UVO Link and UVO Play, and even virtual assistant technology similar to Amazon Alexa and Google Home smart device that gives the consumer the ability to use voice-commands to control cabin features. With an elegant and sophisticated new look, sharp lines bring out details of the Kia Sorento with a wider shape and elongated exterior proportions. Inside, the interior is filled with premium-quality materials and takes on a new stunning design. All of this is wrapped up in the many safety features Kia Motors offers on every 2021 Kia Sorento model, with many safety features coming standard.
