Kia America Joins Final Round of 2022 Electrify Expo
One of the largest collections of electric vehicle (EV) automakers and suppliers have been getting together this year at Electrify Expo, North America’s largest EV festival that takes a look at the future of these vehicles and the technology that they will entail. A lot of factors will play into the future of EVs and battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) and the impact they will have on the auto industry and their environment. Starting in June, 2022, the first segment of the series took place in Long Beach, California. The Electrify Expo has multiple segments around the country, and the final round takes place this month (November 2022) in Austin, Texas. Kia America has been following the expo since June and will be bringing with it the EV6 and all-new Niro EV.
“The 2022 Electrify Expo events have provided a forum for the top companies and executives in electrification to come together to share insights and discuss how the transition to all-electrified vehicles will be made as seamlessly as possible…Kia was able to share our point-of-view as one of the top selling manufacturers of EV vehicles and we certainly learned from the perspectives of others. We are confident that we are charting the best path forward and helping to shape the future of the automotive industry.” – Eric Watson, vice president, sales operations, Kia America
As we mentioned, many factors play into the future of EVs and BEVs. During the Electrify Expo event, topics such as the EV industry, range anxiety, battery materials and sustainability, charging infrastructure, and supply chain barriers are brought up in discussion and the best way to tackle the challenges they may provide. Battery materials and their sustainability is one of the largest challenges automakers will face – once they’re used up, do we just throw them into a landfill? Kia Corp doesn’t think so and has been working with other companies to find the best ways to recycle used EV batteries, such as the collaboration between Kia and SK Innovation , and most recently, the repurposing of used EV batteries thanks to the partnership between Kia and Deutsche Bahn .
These are just examples of some of the topics that will be brought up during the final round of Electrify Expo. Having expanded its industry-facing events and education programs to tackle current challenges, the Expo features a full day of programming, industry leadership, and breakout sessions for the Auto and Micromobility categories currently working towards EV development. EVs are a large piece of the pie, but personal mobility on a smaller scale, such as the mobility solutions displayed by the Hyundai Motor Group (and Kia) at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), and purpose-built vehicles (PBVs) are growing in popularity. The future of autonomous driving applications is also becoming a larger focus in the industry as level 3, 4, and 5 become more prevalent. Many automakers are looking into the introduction of fully autonomous driving technology by the end of the decade, and Kia plans to introduce self-driving vehicles along with its software-defined vehicles by 2025 .
The Electrify Expo series wraps up this month, November 11-13, 2022 at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. What new developments will it bring? Follow along with us on Miami Lakes Automall social media .
