Mitsubishi Motors has been making a comeback since it joined the Renault-Nissan Alliance. Winning awards and high rankings from prestigious names in the industry, just two years ago, Mitsubishi scored the highest for Premium Brands , according to the 2021 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study. More than just an automaker, customer service by Mitsubishi dealerships across the nation also score high, according to the 2021 J.D. Power Customer Service Index Study . In 2023, the records for 2022 also show a high ranking for Mitsubishi Motors during the 2022 J.D. Power CSI, ranked with a high overall customer satisfaction score.

A well-known name in the industry, J.D. Power conducts many studies on the auto market every year and cover a wide range of subjects, such as quality, technology, user-friendliness, and yes, customer service. A global leader in consumer insights, J.D. Power has a history of 42 years delivering industry intelligence on customer interactions with brands. In 2021, the J.D. Power CSI study was updated for modern times. With emerging features such as valet service, remote vehicle servicing, and online/smartphone app payment options becoming ever more practical, customer service changes with it. Measuring customer satisfaction, this study is a result of sending surveys out to owners and lessees of one- to three-year-old vehicles and their experience with service at franchised dealer or aftermarket service facilities for maintenance or repair work. Scoring each vehicle on a 1000-point score, the vehicle owner service experience was measured in five parts (in order of importance): service quality (32-percent); service advisor (19-percent); vehicle pick-up (19-percent); service facility (15-percent); and service initiation (15-percent).

“Dealer service departments are in a pivotal position to improve customer satisfaction and provide greater customer convenience, even though many challenges—including the parts supply chain disruption and the availability of new-vehicle loaners—are out of their control…Proactive communication with customers is one solution for dealerships to mitigate a disruptively tough situation. Simply implementing text or email alerts can greatly improve customer satisfaction. Additionally, letting customers know what is happening at each step along the way, including why it is taking longer to book an appointment or providing any updates in parts delays, can help improve satisfaction.” – Chris Sutton, vice president of automotive retail at J.D. Power

The 2022 U.S. CSI Study results were based on responses from 67,185 verified registered owners and lessees of 2019 to 2021 model-year vehicles that completed the survey. Conducted from July through December 2021, the study covers several customer service experiences, mentioned above. Results of the 2022 study found several highlights – (1) customer trust with the dealer service departments have improved, with the lowest score 5.91/7, (2) text-message updates about appointments or status-updates was preferred by 42-percent of customers, with the leftover data spread across apps and other online services, (3) some dealership service departments send customers photos and videos of repair work that would be needed after inspection, and require approval by the customer, also increasing trust and customer satisfaction, (4) customers enjoy their maintenance service whether they visit the dealership (847) or using a mobile service that has a technician come to them (866), and (5) battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) threw a wrench in the works with 68-point gap to cross for BEV owners (784) when compared with owners of gas- or diesel-powered vehicles (852).Amongst the top five automotive dealerships that ranked high in satisfaction with dealer service among mass market brands, Mitsubishi Motors earned an 854/1000 points for the 2022 U.S. CSI Study.
