Kia Sorento and Rio Named for Safety and Reliability
Earlier in 2018, we learned that Kia Motors is quickly becoming the safest car brand in America thanks to studies from U.S. News & World Report , AMCI Global, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The IIHS named eight Kia Motors vehicles for Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick Plus, but had some special focus on the 2019 Kia Sorento. There sure is a lot to love about the Kia Sorento, one of which is its reliability, according to U.S. News & World Report. On the topic of reliability, another Kia Motors vehicle has been named by the IIHS – the 2018 Kia Rio.
U.S. News Names 2018 Kia Sorento
Yes, there is a lot of talk surrounding the many reasons to love the 2019 Kia Sorento, but with 2018 coming to a close, there is still a focus on 2018 model year vehicles and plenty of time for awards. U.S. News & World Report is a respected piece of literature, recognized as a leader of news and information across multiple industries, including college, grad school, hospital, mutual fund, and automobiles. With a network that publishes news, opinion, consumer advice, rankings, and analysis on a multitude of subjects, automotive being one of them, U.S. News & World Report is a name many consumers should become familiar with.
While compiling their list of “Most Reliable Midsize SUVs”, U.S. News & World Report named many vehicles, including the 2018 Dodge Durango, 2018 Dodge Journey, 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2018 Dodge Durango, 2018 Chevrolet Traverse, and yes, the 2018 Kia Sorento . U.S. News gave the 2018 Kia Sorento a reliability rating of 4/5, with an overall score of 8.7/10. One of the best reliability ratings in its class, not only does the 2018 Kia Sorento provide available driver assist technologies such as Surround View Monitor, Advanced Smart Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning System, Autonomous Emergency Braking, and a Lane Departure Warning System, Kia Motors also provides some of the best warranty plans in the auto industry. Kia backs all of its vehicles with an industry-leading warranty that includes a five-year or 60,000-mile limited basic warranty and a 10-year or 100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty.
Starting MSRP for 2018 Kia Sorento is $25,900 (plus destination fee).
The Kia Rio Earns a Badge
Now, we all know the IIHS is a trusted organization for rating vehicle safety by putting it through five impact-crash simulations. Those five tests consist of small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints for testing crash avoidance and mitigation. To earn a “Top Safety Pick Plus” (TSP+), a vehicle must pass all five crash tests, with a performance rating of “good”, with good being the highest.
The IIHS also does make notes on their ratings. Recently, the 2018 Kia Rio received the highest safety rating, “Top Safety Pick+”, from the IIHS. As part of the notes, this badge was earned when the Kia Rio was equipped with the front crash prevention system and its updated LED headlights. Not to worry though – with only three trims, a safety-packed Kia Rio has a starting MSRP of $18,400 (plus destination fee) for the high-end trim, and the Kia Rio S is the only trim that has the option of adding LED headlights, with a starting MSRP of $16,100 (plus destination fee).
