Kia has had a lot of good media for its first all-electric vehicle, the Kia EV6. Receiving awards and high rankings by many automotive publications and organizations, the EV6 has quickly become a highlight of the lineup. During the 2022 Chicago Auto Show, one of our writers got to test drive an EV6 and noted about how smooth and powerful it was for an electric vehicle (EV). Recently, Electrify America and Kia joined forces to give new EV buyers a huge incentive with free EV charging at Electrify America charging stations (limitations apply). Just before the end of February, the EV6 got another feather in its cap, named the 2022 Car of the Year in the prestigious European Car of the Year (COTY) awards.

“It’s a great honour to have won the 2022 European Car of the Year with the EV6, the first ever Kia to win this prestigious award. The EV6 is truly a landmark development that’s been designed from the outset to make electric mobility fun, convenient and accessible by combining a highly impressive real-world driving range, ultra-fast charging capabilities, a spacious high-tech interior and a truly rewarding driving experience. The EV6 is an exciting sign of what’s still to come in our evolving electrified line-up.” – Jason Jeong, President at Kia Europe

This was no easy feat. The competition this year was huge, but the Kia EV6 beat the Hyundai IONIQ 5, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Škoda Enyaq iV, Cupra Born, Renault Mégane E-Tech, and Peugeot 308 for the title. A strong jury consisting of 61 highly respected motoring journalists from 23 European countries, there was no favoritism here. With multiple perspectives taking a look at the list, over sixty models launched during 2021 made the list, and in November, the list was whittled down to just seven vehicles, six of which were EVs. With the success of EVs rising, it makes sense that the auto market and consumer base is shifting towards alternative fuel now more than ever.

As we mentioned, the Kia EV6 has already won many awards since its release. These include the 2022 Irish Car of the Year; 2022 What Car? ‘Car of the Year’; ‘Crossover of the Year’ at the TopGear.com 2021 awards; ‘Premium’ winner in the German Car of the Year 2022 awards; and joint winner of the inaugural ‘Best Cars of the Year’ 2021/2022 awards. World-renowned, the Kia EV6 is the first of seven dedicated EV models Kia plans to launch by 2026. Playing a key role in the automaker’s plans for becoming a global leader of EVs and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), the Kia EV6 is leading the pack. Next up is the Kia EV8, an all-electric SUV also seen at the 2022 Chicago Auto Show, very reminiscent of the Kia Telluride SUV, the largest in the lineup.

Like the Kia EV6, the EV8 will be riding on the dedicated battery-electric vehicle (BEV) platform developed by the Hyundai Motor Group (inclusive with Kia), the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP. The underpinning of all EVs going forward, instead of modifying what was already there, Hyundai developed a whole new platform. When it came to designing the EV6, this platform offered the vehicle class-leading interior space, a highly impressive 328-mile driving range, and 800V ultra-fast charging capabilities. With the new contract with Electrify America, consumers can get 10 to 80 percent charge in just 18 minutes, completely free!Don’t miss out on all the Kia EV6 has to offer.
