IIHS Recognizes the 2020 Kia Telluride for Safety
A little over a year ago, Kia Motors was quickly becoming the safest car brand in America . The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety ( IIHS) had previously rated eight Kia Motors models , each of which received either a Top Safety Pick or a Top Safety Pick +, and other organizations like AMCI Global and U.S. News & World Report both recognized several Kia vehicles for their safety. Now in 2019, Kia Motors is once again has the most vehicles with a Top Safety Pick and/or Top Safety Pick Plus ratings from the IIHS that any other brand in the auto market with the addition of the 2020 Kia Telluride to the lineup.
“We are extremely proud of this significant achievement…We constantly strive to build the best quality and safest vehicles possible and being the automaker with the most TSP and TSP+ ratings is ultimately gratifying.” – Orth Hedrick, Executive Director, Car Planning & Technology, Kia Motors America
Quickly following the 2020 Kia Soul received a Top Safety Pick Plus award from the IIHS, the 2020 Kia Telluride also recently got its gold. The newest distinction between the large 2020 Kia Telluride SUV and other vehicles comes from the ratings it received during IIHS crash tests. As we have discussed in the past, the IIHS evaluates the safety of a vehicle based on crash avoidance and mitigation with six tests – small overlap front, moderate overlap front, each side, roof strength, and head restraints. IIHS also tests for crash-prevention and provides a headlight rating.
IIHS rates vehicles on the following scale: “Poor”, “Marginal”, “Acceptable”, and “Good”. Crash-prevention systems are on a different scale: a “Basic”, “Advanced”, or “Superior” rating. To receive a 2019 TSP+ rating, a vehicle must earn a “Good” rating on each of the crashworthiness tests, receive an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating for crash-prevention, and earn a “Good” headlight rating. The new 2020 Kia Telluride earned “Good” ratings in all six IIHS crashworthiness tests and received an “Acceptable” rating for its headlights. The 2020 Kia Telluride also received a “Superior” rating for its front crash-prevention.
A “Superior” rating can likely be attested to Kia Motors available Kia Drive Wise package . This package adds a blind spot collision warning (BCW) system with lane change assist, rear-cross traffic collision warning (RCCW), lane departure warning, lane keep assist, advanced smart cruise control (ASCC), Kia’s driver attention alert (DAA) system, high beam assist, an electronic parking brake, and rain sensing variable intermittent windshield wipers. It’s quite the upgrade to any Kia Motors vehicle.
Kia Motors is now the leading brand with twelve vehicles having received a Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick Plus rating from the IIHS. When the 2020 Kia Telluride was first released in March, the large SUV spearheaded Kia Motors sales . It seemed pretty popular, and we’re sure it’s about to get much more popular with high safety ratings like these. The 2020 Kia Telluride joins the 2019 Kia Forte 4-door sedan, 2019 Kia Niro hybrid, 2019 Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid, 2020 Kia Soul, 2019 Kia Optima, 2019 Kia Stinger, and 2019 Kia Sorento SUV for Kia Motors models with a Top Safety Pick Plus rating.
