2023 Kia Niro Wins Two Awards from WWCOTY

The Kia Corporation is no stranger to winning awards for some of their best and most popular vehicles on the market today, and every week there’s something new. In March 2023 alone, nine Kia models were named on the Car and Driver 2022 Editors’ Choice Awards List , and two more Kia models were named as finalists for the 2023 World Car Awards . Dealing with another “World Car Award”, the 2023 Women’s World Car of the Year (WWCOTY) awards recently concluded, and a hybrid that’s been gaining a lot of attention recently won another award before the month closes out. Earning the title of “Urban Car of the Year” is the one and only 2023 Kia Niro.

Now in its 13th year, the WWCOTY looks at vehicles available on the market today and judge them based on safety, driving, comfort, technology, design, efficiency, its impact on the environment, and the value for money. A single winner is chosen for each segment, such as Best Urban Car, Best Family SUV, Best Performance Car, Best Large Car, Best Large SUV, and Best 4×4 model. With 64 jurors on the judging panel, the jury consists of motoring journalists from 40 countries across five continents to not only establish diversity but different viewpoints for picking the winner of each segment.

The 2023 Kia Niro won out over five other category winners and impressed judges with its state-of-the-art electrified powertrain options, and the Kia Niro was named the overall “Supreme Winner” among all other category winners. A first for the industry, the Kia Niro was the hybrid crossover in the world. Spawning a growing electric lineup for Kia, this was the first model to be released as a hybrid versus an all-gasoline powertrain model, followed by a hybrid, as per the pattern goes for Kia. This year, the Kia Sportage Hybrid was named one of the Best Cars for the Money by U.S. News & World Report and the Kia Sportage PHEV was named one of the Best Cars to Buy for 2023 by The Car Connection (TCC).

This win for the Kia Niro adds to the vehicle’s growing list of accolades and goes to show that hybrid, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). The one and only Kia Niro also remains as the only vehicle on the market available with three different electrified propulsion options.
