Highlights of the 2018 Mitsubishi Models
Excited for the 2018 model year? Auto brands around the world are releasing and producing their new automotive lineups, and Mitsubishi Motors has already put the goods for their 2018 models online. Let’s recap what Mitsubishi Motors has going on while we wait for more information about the 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross and the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.
2018 Mitsubishi Outlander
Icon of the Mitsubishi Motors brand, the Outlander doesn’t need to change much to remain as one of the top dogs in the lineup. This year, all four trims get a bit of a name change, with the digits “2.4” added at the end of the trim name, except for the GT, now known as “GT 3.0”. There are still two engine options, with the ES 2.4, SE 2.4, and SEL 2.4 powered by the standard 2.4-liter MIVEC SOHC I4 engine that generates 166 horsepower, and the GT 3.0 powered by the 3.0-liter MIVEC SOHC V6 with an output of 244 horsepower. In terms of aesthetic and convenient features, all trims have heated exterior mirrors, rear privacy glass, and automatic dual-zone climate control. For a little more comfort, heated front seats and a leather wrapped steering wheel can be found on select trims as an option or included. For entertainment purposes and safety, all trims will have a 7-inch display screen with a rearview camera for the 2018 model year, and high-end trims finally have Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto capability.
2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport
Another icon of the brand, the Outlander Sport sometimes outdoes its sibling. We’re sad to see the Outlander Sport Limited Edition leave the 2018 lineup, but it was a “limited” production trim. Now reduced to three trims, the Outlander Sport base trim has some extra features, and who can argue about getting more features for less? The same standards and options on the Outlander trims are also on the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. All Mitsubishi Outlander trims have a 7-inch display screen with a rearview camera, and Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto are standard on the Outlander Sport SE 2.4 and Outlander Sport SEL 2.4. This year, more advanced features, like automatic high beam headlights, forward collision mitigation, and lane departure warning are available on various trims.
2018 Mitsubishi Mirage
Mitsubishi’s fuel efficient hatchback, the Mitsubishi Mirage, is still as popular as ever. The engine powering all three Mirage trims is still a 1.2-liter I3 engine with MIVEC technology, paired to a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic transmission. Mitsubishi spruced things up for the 2018 model year and made some changes to the interior. Rear floor heater ducts are now a lineup standard, and there are heated front seats on the Mirage GT. To beef up the base trim, the Mirage ES, there is a standard 7-inch touchscreen, which is a great modern amenity. For added capability, the Mirage SE and GT trims have a 6.5-inch smartphone link display system with Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto. Other tech features, such as Bluetooth wireless technology and steering wheel mounted audio and voice/phone controls are standard for the 2018 model year.
2018 Mitsubishi Mirage G4
Lastly, the Mirage G4, the sedan version of the Mirage, is still kicking it with two trims, which are both powered by the same powertrain in the Mirage. The Mirage G4 SE comes standard with a leather wrapped steering wheel and heated seats. The base, Mirage G4 ES, has the same 7-inch touchscreen, but can upgrade to have the same Google Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capabilities of the SE (set up with a 6.5-inch smartphone link display). Again, Bluetooth wireless technology is a lineup standard, along with a rearview camera system. Steering wheel mounted audio and voice/phone controls are standard for the SE trim, but consumers can opt-in for voice controls for the ES.
