Kia Reveals the 2023 Kia Sportage

It’s not even 2022 yet, and Kia Corp is already busting out the details of the 2023 Kia Sportage SUV. Undergoing a complete transformation, hot on the heels of the new generation of the Kia Sorento, the Sportage gets bigger and bolder. Following the pattern, the 2023 Sportage also hints at plug-in hybrid or electric versions of the vehicle in the coming years. With the automaker going in multiple directions – electric vehicles (EVs) like the EV6 , purpose-built vehicles ( PBVs ), high-performance vehicles like the GT-Line , and adventurous vehicles like the X-Line . The new Kia Sportage will get a little more exposure to these variants of the Kia Corp lineup.

Already shaking things up, the Kia Sportage comes with five trims plus two X-Pro trims. The entire lineup is LX, EX, SX, SX-Prestige and X-Line trims, plus the all-new Sportage X-Pro and X-Pro Prestige trims for going off-road, equipped with all-terrain tires. Even though this is the 2023 model, the gasoline variant of the all-new Sportage will go on sale during the first quarter of 2022, so consumers can start the new year with an adventure.

Under the hood is a new 2.5-liter I-4, with a targeted horsepower of 187hp, the Sportage isn’t made to win any drag-races. Still, with the ability to get front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) right from the start, the 2023 Sportage is an SUV that can go just about anywhere. Following Kia’s new “Opposites United” design philosophy, this SUV is smooth yet rugged, on-road control and off-road confidence combined. The new Tiger Nose signature grille spans the entire width of the front fascia, mimicking more of a tiger face these days. Angular fenders and “boomerang” DRLS give the Sportage a sharp shape with muscular shoulders that add more volume and overall shape to the SUV.

Inside, the cabin is looking more futuristic with an available dual panoramic curved display with available dual panoramic curved display, nearly 25-inches of digital goodness – literally, the driver is greeted by one 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, plus a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. Again, this is an available setup, not standard. On the EX and above, trims come with animal-free leather upholstery. For feelings of luxury, the SX and above trims come with real stitching and detailed patterns on the seats. Along with the comfort of leather, the 2023 Kia Sportage has expanded, now with best-in-class rear legroom for rear passengers (41.3 inches). The new Sportage also comes with the best-in-class rear cargo capacity with 39.6 cu-ft. of space with a dual level cargo floor.

Tech also gets a boost, with a new intuitive touchpad for controlling functions within the cabin, replacing physical knobs and a cluttered center console. With multi-connection Bluetooth for up to two smartphones, Google Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, users can create personalized profiles for settings such as climate, infotainment preferences, phone connection pairings, and more. With luxury in mind for not just comfort but technology, available features like a Harman Kardon premium audio system or the recently discussed Kia Connect services. Then there is also Kia and safety.

Always offering consumers more standard and more optional advanced safety features, the 2023 Kia Sportage comes with the following systems standard – Driver Attention Warning (DAW), LED Headlights with High Beam Assist (HBA), Lane Following Assist (LFA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Forward Collision Avoidance (FCA), Rear Occupant Alert (ROA), Rear View Monitor (RVM), Reverse Parking Distance Warning (PDW-R). Then, there are many Advanced Driver Assistance Systems available on select trims. These consist of Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM), Blind Spot Collision Avoidance-Assist (BCA), Blind Spot Collision Avoidance (BCA), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance-Assist (RCCA), Forward Collision Avoidance (FCA), Forward Parking Distance Warning (PDW-F), Highway Driving Assist (HDA), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control-Curve (NSCC-C), Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control-Zone (NSCC-Z), Reverse Parking Collision Avoidance (PCA-R), Safe Exit Warning (SEW), Smart Cruise Control (SCC).

Interested in the X-Line? Blending sporty and rugged, the exterior comes with many unique features to set it apart.
