Kia EV6 Wins Green Car Award from the ICOTY Overseas

The Kia Corporation is already on a roll winning awards for 2023. Just last week (early 2023), the results for the North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year™ (NACTOY) Awards named the winners, and the Kia EV6 took home of the name of the best North American Utility Vehicle of the Year ™. This is the first win for a Kia electric vehicle (EV) since they started producing EVs. Another Kia model won “car of the year” overseas, showing love for the South Korean automaker on both sides of the globe. Winning the Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) for 2023 and the Green Car Award 2023 by ICOTY, the EV6 makes a return with an overseas model, the Kia Carens.

What are the ICTOY awards? Held by the Automotive Journalists Association of India (AJAI), an ICTOY award is one of the most sought after awards in the country for automakers. What better bragging rights than being able to say their car won out in the entire country? Called the “Oscars of the Indian automotive industry”, the award is given to the new best car on the market. A jury panel made up of peers with many years of experience in the industry are responsible for selecting a single winner for the awards each year. The jury measures each vehicle based on the following factors: like price, fuel efficiency, styling, comfort, safety, performance, practicality, technical innovation, value for money, and suitability for Indian driving conditions.

The Kia Carens won’t be a known name in the U.S. or much of North America because it is a made-in-India global product from Kia in the family car class. With the automaker putting a major focus on hatchbacks and SUVs, the only minivan in the lineup is the Kia Carnival , recently revealed as a multi-purpose vehicle to bridge the gap between SUV and family van. The Kia Carens is doing the same, blending family mover and SUV to offer the Indian market a complete package as a spacious three-row recreational vehicle designed for modern Indian families. Offering first-in-class features, such as a 10.25-inch HD Touchscreen with next generation Kia Connect and Navigation, a BOSE Premium sound system with eight speakers, Smart Pure Air Purifier with Virus and Bacteria protection, ventilated front seats, second-row seat with one-touch easy electric tumble, and a SkyLight sunroof. Offering three powertrain options, two petrol/gasoline, and one diesel, the Carens is in high demand overseas.

We wouldn’t just report on a vehicle not available in the U.S. market. As we mentioned, the Kia EV6 also won an Indian award as the Green Car Award 2023 by the ICOTY. Revolutionizing the EV market with its Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) by Hyundai, the EV6 was just the beginning for Kia. Set to release two new EVs every year through 2027, according to the Kia 2022 CEO Investor Day , with the next in line set to be the all-electric SUV Kia EV9 , the automaker is always one step ahead of the game.
