Although the latest news about the Kia Sorento is surrounding the upcoming 2021 Kia Sorento Hybrid , the original internal combustion engine model is starting to get a lot of love. Said to be setting the new benchmark for SUVS everywhere, we can’t wait to see what’s in store for consumers. With all kinds of upgrades and features in every area of an automobile, the Sorento is not the same SUV as last model year. Check out the highlights to see what’s new and what the new Kia Sorento SUV has to offer.

Options

There are five trims offered for the new 2021 Kia Sorento – LX, S, EX, SX, and SX-Prestige. Like models released before it, the Sorento is getting a special trim as a part of its debut. For more off-road capability, the new X-Line trim offers 1.0-in. higher ground clearance, improved approach/departure angles, more advanced AWD with snow-mode, and a more robust roof rack than its predecessors. For consumers looking for this trim, it’s hidden under the SX-Prestige AWD moniker with the X-Line appearance package. In addition to the above features, the total package comes with torque-on-demand AWD with center locking differential and downhill descent control, a ride height of 8.3 inches, unique 20-inch alloy wheels, and exterior features and details exclusive to the X-Line.

Performance

Let’s talk about performance. A little later than when the new Sorento is released, an available 1.6-liter GDI 4-cylinder Turbo Plug-in Hybrid option will be there, able to deliver 261 horsepower and an estimated 30 miles of pure electric driving range. This is in addition to three other engines available at launch: a new 2.5-Turbo option with 281 horsepower and 311-lb-ft, available with either a front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drivetrain (AWD) option, mated with a segment exclusive 8-speed wet dual clutch automatic transmission. The other two options are a 2.5-liter GDI 4-cylinder able to generate 191 horsepower and 182 lb-ft torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and also available with FWD or AWD. A Turbo hybrid Kia Sorento is also joining with a 1.6-liter GDI 4-cylinder and a 44 kW electric motor offering 277 horsepower on FWD with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Style

Even with some trims getting plenty of perks, such as the aforementioned X-Line, the 2021 Kia Sorento shines at every trim level with a modernized “tiger nose”, new “eyeline” DRL details, and a wide grille making up the front fascia. The hood wraps around the side of the body, extending all the way to the rear shoulder line to add length and width to the vehicle, as well as a more muscular appearance overall. Getting a little high-tech, the front fascia also comes with LED headlamps standard and optional signature LED forward lighting. The 2021 Kia Sorento comes with six different alloy wheel designs, ranging from 17-inches to 20-inches. Inside, there is a “Refined Boldness” with bright satin finishes, vertical center air vents, available metal texture inlays or open-pore wood inlays, and for leather-equipped models, a leather embossed quilt pattern for the seats.

Technology

Now let’s really get into the tech inside the new 2021 Kia Sorento. Many additions have been made available for 2021, including a 12.3-in. full digital meter cluster (a Kia first), Surround View Monitor, Blind View Monitor, SiriusXM satellite radio, a 10.25-inch inch touchscreen with split-screen functionality and multi-connection Bluetooth wireless connectivity for up to two phones. The standard setup comes with an 8-inch touchscreen and a version of UVO. Just check out the many features UVO now offers for Kia Motors models . For the best sound system ever inside a Kia model, a Bose Premium sound system is available with 12 high-performance speakers.

Kia Motors has never been one to skimp on the safety of its vehicles, and the 2021 Kia Sorento is no different. A total of 16 “Kia Drive Wise” Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems can be found either standard or as an available option on the new SUV. These features include new Blind Spot Collision Avoidance, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, Forward Collision Warning, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, FCA-Pedestrian, FCA-Cyclist, Driver Attention Warning, leading Vehicle Departure Alert, Lane Following Assist, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist, Parking Distance Warning, Parking Collision Avoidance Assist, Navigation Based Smart Cruise Control-Curve, Highway Driving Assist, and Safe Exist Assist.
