The 2022 Wrangler Rubicon 392 encompasses the best of the best when it comes to the V8 engine. Under the hood of the Rubicon 392 lies a hell-raising 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine. The engine yields 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, which garners the title of the most potent Jeep produced thus far. The V8’s support system is the TorqueFlite 8HP75 eight-speed automatic transmission and the MP3022 Selec-Trac transfer case. The full-time transfer case is phenomenal for traction.
The 5,200-pound Jeep skyrockets from 0-60 mph on the track in less than 5 seconds. The Wrangler Rubicon jolts through 1,320 feet in less than 14 seconds, dashing across the finish line at 101.3 mph, which makes the SUV the quickest and fastest SUV MotorTrend has ever tested.
Similar to the Wrangler Rubicon, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, the 392 dominated the RTI ramp. With the front anti-roll bar engaged, both Wranglers climbed to 63 inches. When the 392 disconnected the electronic front anti-roll bar, it made an additional 18 inches (81 inches) up the ramp.
Time to hit the Off-Roads
There’s a notable contrast between the Rubicon 392 and the typical Wrangler Rubicon, and that’s gearing. The 392 harbors so much power that Jeep offers a 2.72:1 low range gear instead of the standard 4.0:1. The axle gears also see an alteration of 3.73:1 instead of the 4.10:1.
The 35-inch tires are a circulation of force with locking differential at both ends, a disconnecting anti-roll bar, rock slides, and skid plates, an unstoppable force on the off-road. As a result, the Jeep easily persevered through the steep, rutted hill climbs and rocky trails.
