The 2021 North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year (NACTOY) Awards have announced the 27 semifinalists including the massively popular 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer , the revamped Chevrolet Tahoe , and the iconic Chevrolet Suburban . These are just three of the choices among the 27, but all can earn the Utility of the Year award. The awards first began in 1994 and represents a way for automotive manufacturers to celebrate the most popular vehicles each year. The criteria to win requires offering a standout performance in innovation, design, safety, performance driver satisfaction, value, and technology. Last year, Chevrolet was awarded the Car of the Year award for the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. The Chevrolet brand has also won for the 2018 Chevrolet Bolt for Car of the Year as well. This year’s show has been pushed back, however, but the details have been revealed as to when it will go on, roughly a year from now.
2021 NAIAS Show Moved Back
A jury of 50 independent journalists has lowered the finalists count and each vehicle will be fully vetted in the coming months ahead. The announcement of the winners will take place at the 2021 North American International Auto Show that has been pushed back till September 28th through October 9th, 2021. The event will take place in Detroit, Michigan. This is not the only auto show event that has been pushed back due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The Los Angeles Auto Show has been pushed back to May 2021 and the New York International Auto Show has moved to April 2021. This means there will be a massive 33-month gap between the last auto show that was held back in January 2019. The NAIAS will continue at the TCF Center for the next three years and keep its later date.
Changing of the Guard
The landscape of the automotive industry has changed in favor of SUV growth. According to IHS Markit, a company that offers critical research and information for various companies, the growth of SUVs accounts for 47.4% of U.S. sales last year. While that number was quite high in 2019, the figure could be even higher in 2020. Sedans saw a fall down to as low as 22%, unfortunately for customers who embrace driving a car. The 2021 NACTOY award nominees for the sedans this year only include some of the sleekest and stylish car options.
“The breadth of choices in the SUV category from style to powertrain is really impressive,” said NACTOY Secretary Gary Vasilash, an industry veteran who is editor-in-chief of AutoBeat.
Look Out For More Innovation
Of course, Chevrolet is looking forward to improving its own lineup of SUVs. The crop of the newest Chevrolet SUV lineup carries the newest infotainment and safety technology that helped earned this nomination. Chevy is wise to invest more high-tech and push ahead to new EV technology. The state of California has announced the prohibition of any new, gas-powered cars in just over 14 years from now. By 2035, the landscape of vehicles will look quite different. Drivers looking for a smart pick to drive will take a closer look at the current new Chevrolet inventory here at Miami Lakes Automall.
