EngineThe 2019 Kia Optima is available in four trim levels - LX, S, EX, and SX. The Kia Optima LX and S trim levels share a 185 horsepower 2.4-liter Double Overhead Cam (DOHC) 16-valve I-4 engine. The Kia Optima EX is powered by a standard 178 horsepower 1.6-liter DOHC 16-valve I-4 with a turbocharger, and a 245 horsepower 2.0-liter DOHC 16-valve with a turbocharger is standard on the top-tier Optima SX trim level. All models share a four-wheel disc with an antilock braking system and come standard with a front-wheel-drive configuration.
Except for the EX trim level, that is standard with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, the Kia Optima LX, S, and SX all come equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission drivetrain. The fuel economy varies depending on the trim level. For starters, the Optima LX has an EPA of 25 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. Secondly, the Optima S fuel economy numbers drop slightly to 24 mpg in the city and 33 on the highway. The Optima ES achieves the highest EPA of 27 mpg in the city and 37 on the highway. The highest trim level, the Optima SX, reaches 21 mpg in the city and 24 on the highway.
