Since the 2011 model year, almost all Chevy vehicles have a basic OnStar plan and today there are several different types of OnStar features and add-ons that Chevy owners and drivers can purchase to improve many aspects related to the driving experience. Here’s a closer look at all of the available OnStar plans and features. OnStar Basic Plan
Though the standard OnStar Basic Plan is free for the first five years of ownership, it is a pretty comprehensive plan. The basic plan includes “smart driver,” which is a feature that helps coach drivers into being better drivers (which can help lower car insurance premiums) and it includes a few features that informs drivers of the vehicle’s “health” as well as when it is in need of repair or routine maintenance. Owners can also use the OnStar basic plan to sync their vehicle up with a smartphone app, which makes it possible for users to remotely lock and unlock their vehicle. The basic plan also comes with OnStar AtYourService, which users can use to find the locations of restaurants, entertainment and shopping.
OnStar Protection Plan
The OnStar Protection Plan is a step up from the basic plan and it assists drivers and passengers in the event of an accident or emergency. In addition to all of the features included with the basic plan, the OnStar Protection Plan will notify OnStar advisors if an accident has been detected (specific conditions apply) and then the advisors reach out to the driver. If an accident has been detected, the advisors notify emergency services and direct them to the vehicle’s location. The protection plan also features crisis assistance, a feature that assists drivers when in severe weather or a crisis. Additionally, with the protection plan users can conveniently push a button to call for roadside assistance. $19.99 a month or $199.90 per year
OnStar Security Plan
The OnStar Security Plan includes all of the features in the protection and basic plans, but it also includes stolen vehicle assistance. In the event of a car theft, OnStar works with authorities and use the vehicle’s GPS sensors to find the vehicle. The plan also notifies users via phone when their vehicle’s car alarm has been triggered. $24.99 a month or $249.90 per year
OnStar Guidance Plan
Vehicle owners that want the most out of their plan will want to opt for the OnStar Guidance Plan. In addition to all of the features of the other three plans, the guidance plan includes 30 minutes of hands free calling per month as well as turn-by-turn navigation assistance. Those additional features are just another way OnStar helps drivers keep their eyes on the road and hands on the steering wheel all while enjoying the conveniences of modern tech. $34.99 a month or $349.90 a year
OnStar 4G LTE WiFi
