2016 Chevy Silverado - Miami, FL

History of Chevy Trucks

What does a Chevy Truck mean to you? Is it a symbol of American manufacturing and ingenuity? Is it a symbol of strength and hard work? Is it pure dedication to being the best?

Whatever the reason, Chevy Trucks like 2016 Chevy Silverado's you can find at Miami Lakes Automall in Miami, Fl have lived up to drivers expectations and in most cases have surpassed them.

Just to think it all started over 100 years ago with a simple idea: the need for something to help carry materials around a booming car factory. Yeah, that is how the pickup truck was born.

It seems that some clever American Chevy factory workers needed an easy way to move some of the materials around the factory.

They got the idea to take a few car chassis and fit them with hand-built beds so that they could easily move things around. Boom! That was it. So simple. Can you imagine life without a truck? Shutter to think!

1916 is the magic year. All indications point to a few "Four-Ninety" based trucks were built for the purpose of hauling around materials internally in the factory right around 1916.

A few documents claim that a few even earlier chassis could have been made into ambulances and sent to France in 1914.

In any event, Nov. 22, 1916, in Flint, Mich., is the noted date when the first pickup truck was produced and shipped from the factory on Dec. 2, 1916. A lot has changed over the last hundred years.

2016 Chevy Silverado - First impressions

2016 Chevy Silverado Desert

Looking at the 2016 Chevy Silverado and you clearly see a truck built with strength and durability in mind.

Silverado has gone through a few tweaks over the past few years and the 2016 model is no exception.

You'll notice a more aggressive front-end design, a few more transmission options including an 8 speed automatic, upgraded safety enhancements, and a new version of the very popular MyLink Infotainment system.

Silverado Engine Performance

Those of you who have been long standing Chevrolet truck owners already know what you can expect out of you Chevy engines.

Besides the dependability that comes from Chevrolet, the new 2016 Chevy Silverado has a few additional enhancements that will make most Chevy Truck owners extremely excited.

All the engines offered the in the 2016 Chevy Silverado feature aluminum blocks and heads. Chevy realized that aluminum blocks and heads offer incredible durability and dependability all the while making the engine much lighter.

It really is a no-brainer and most Chevy truck owners will be impressed.

Also, in order to gain more power and not sacrifice fuel efficiency every Chevy Silverado engine will now be equipped with direct injection, cylinder deactivation, and continuously variable valve timing.

The decision from Chevy engineers was another indication that they are looking to make one of the toughest trucks around but are not willing to sacrifice fuel efficiency or weight to achieve that goal.

Looking at the base engine offered for the Silverado and you'll discover the EcoTec3 4.3-liter V-6. Estimated to put out 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque is impressive even with heavier crew-cab models.

Next step up is the 5.3-liter V-8. You'll see a significant jump in power as you will be looking at approx 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. This will be an excellent combination for hauling and towing.

Finally, for the most serious power for towing, hauling, or just ripping stuff up go with the top of the line 6.2-liter V-8. This bad boy will give you 420 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. No worries on what you can haul.

You should be able to tow up to 12,000 pounds without issue. Any more than that and you're going to need something more commercial.

Nice Power, But What About the Ride?

Chevrolet took a good hard look at revamping and retooling the Silverado to make it one of the most comfortable rides for a truck of its size and class.

For better control and handling Chevy, engineers have stiffened up the front springs and added two-stage leaf springs and twin-tube valving.

Couple that with electric power steering which comes standard on all of the Silverado lines and you have a pretty smooth setup. Finally, for added stopping power look for four-wheel disc brakes that include a longer-life Duralife rotor.

Let's Get the Inside Scoop

2016 Chevy Silverado Knobs

Traditionally the interior of a truck was not really something that was given much thought. After all, the truck is a workhorse. Designed to get dirty, be dirty, haul stuff, and tow stuff. It wasn't really designed to be a "warm and fuzzy" place to sit.

Over the years that mentality has changed as more and more people use their pickup trucks for more than just work. After times, the inside of our vehicles are the extension to our home or work office.

With that in mind, the 2016 Chevy Silverado has been designed for interior comfort as well as exterior work.

Luckily, the entire cabin has been thought through with the driver in ming. You'll notice that all the controls are laid out in such a way that everything is easy to get to.

The important buttons and features are usually within reach on the center control center or right on the steering wheel.

Gone is the hard uninviting plastic of yesteryear. The entire interior has been given a major upgrade and has been engulfed in a soft rubber material. Easy to clean and maintain.

The knobs and controls are large. Design engineers realized that many drivers are wearing work gloves and small tiny knobs are not easy to grab. The bigger the knob the easier it is without taking off your gloves.

Very convenient.

How Safe Will I Be?

Any good automaker knows that safety is of the utmost importance. Chevrolet has a long history of safe vehicles and the 2016 Chevy Silverado is no exception and has earned some excellent safety ratings.

The federal government gives Crew Cab models its highest five-star rating overall. That is quite an honor. Partly because you will find more advanced safety features in a Silverado then what some other makers will add.

For example StabiliTrak with Trailer Sway Control comes standard, also Hill Start Assist, and head-curtain side airbags with rollover protection.

Also, Silverado is bathed in other preventative technologies such as lane assist, a camera-based Forward Collision Alert system, and the unique optional Safety Alert Seat.

It is a vibrating chair that will alert you when you are veering out of your lane. Especially good for those longer distance trips.

The 2016 Silverado is a stunning example of how a legendary automaker like Chevrolet continues to offer up some of the best features, technology, and ingenuity that comes from a truly American company.
