Ram Shows Off in Texas With the Latest Lone Star Models

April 2nd, 2019 by

It’s no secret that Texas has a long-running love affair with trucks – the state is actually the biggest market in the U.S. for them. Ram recognized this potential gold mine back in 2002 and subsequently introduced the Ram Heavy Duty (HD) Lone Star edition – a truck designed by Texans for Texans. And speaking of Texas, Ram didn’t miss a beat and recently unveiled the all-new 2019 Ram Heavy Duty Lone Star editions at the Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) Auto Show.

The 2019 Ram 2500 and 3500 HD Lone Star editions stand out from the rest of the Ram lineup thanks to their special tailgate badging and some other unique interior touches. Unlike the Ram Laramie Longhorn designs of the past, Ram is no longer interested in pushing the cowboy aesthetic quite as hard – this means potential buyers should not expect tooled leather and tassels to say the least.

Reid Bigland, head of Ram Trucks, was present at the DFW Auto Show to help reveal the new editions and he had this to say: “First and foremost, the Ram Heavy Duty Lone Star edition is a powerful, hard-working truck that meets the demands of Texas truck buyers. Trucks are a big part of life in the Lone Star State, and Ram offers the segment’s best combination of performance, strength, luxury and technology.”

While the Lone Star edition is mainly an appearance package, it also offers a Class V hitch, electronic trailer brake control, and power tow mirrors – all as standard equipment. Besides that, buyers have access to all the redesigned and improved features that we witnessed during the Ram HD debut at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show, including a powerful Cummins diesel engine that produces 1,000 lb-ft of torque. No mention of pricing has been made as of yet, but experts expect that Ram will make the information available closer to launch.

Engine choices on the Ram HD Lone Star include the above-mentioned 6.7-liter inline-six Cummins diesel engine that’s mated to an Aisin six-speed automatic, as well as a lower-output variant of the same engine with 370 horsepower and 850 lb-ft of torque. Standard on all Ram HD Lone Star models is a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine that’s capable of 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque – all while mated to an eight-speed automatic.

As for the interior of the Lone Star, buyers can choose between two different interior packages and up to four color combinations. Cloth upholstery is standard while a power driver’s seat, an upgraded dash, and a larger touchscreen display are all optional. Buyers also have the option to add other appearance and options packages as well.

Although none of these Ram HD pickups are on the market yet, feel free to explore the all-new Ram 1500 which served as the inspiration for the revamped HD models.
