Mitsubishi Debuts Promo for 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport

The 2019 Geneva Motor Show is shaping up to be a large event this year. Well, it’s one of the largest auto shows every year, but this year, the competition is already quickly heating up. Some of this heat is coming from the far east, Japan, straight from Mitsubishi Motors. They’ve already dazzled us a bit with the very secretive Engelberg Tourer Concept coming to the Sweden auto show, but there’s not a whole lot to go on. Just when you think Mitsubishi is going to tease us with another vehicle far overseas, they debut a promo video for their new and improved 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport compact SUV. Lovely!

Let’s face it, the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport needed an upgrade, looking like an exact replica of its older sibling, the Mitsubishi Outlander, it’s tough to tell the two apart if looking at them from the front or rear. Only a profile view of the difference in length is all one would notice from the outside. The interior may be a little more flashy, but now the exterior will match. Known as the 2020 Outlander Sport, also the RVR and ASX in other auto markets around the globe, we’re finally getting a compact SUV from Mitsubishi that matches its namesake.

It all starts with looks and the impact a vehicle makes on consumers. So, Mitsubishi took a proverbial hammer to the body of the Outlander Sport and reworked its front and rear fascias. The signature design concept from Mitsubishi, their “Dynamic Shield”, was changed up a bit when adopted to the 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, encapsulated with horizontal and vertical lines placed along the grille and skid plate for a more robust and tough feeling that should emanate from the new model. Multiple LEDs that make up the front headlamps, a distinctive lamp layout of the fog and turning lights, the large grille and bumper all give the hood a sunken look for a little more edge.

The rear is also new, designed with a bold design that stretches the entire width of the rear. Black corners were added to the sides of the rear bumper for a more stable presence. They’re also a great contrast to the taillight designs, giving the compact SUV a sharper image with LEDs.

Bringing the sporty look full circle are three new colors. Bathe like a King in a tub of rupees with the Red Diamond or feel a sense of luxury with the rich Oak Brown. For a spark of energy every time you see it in the driveway, go with the vivid Sunshine Orange.

The entertainment system comes with some unusual upgrades. A larger, now 8-inch touchscreen is situated in the front center console, and the Smartphone-link Display Audio (SDA) system comes with more advanced connectivity and improved functionality. On top of that, the entertainment system allows consumers to play videos on the touchscreen from an outside source via a USB drive…but the feature is only available if the vehicle is stopped. Possibly going a little more into their Mitsubishi Connect and Telematics system of the Eclipse Cross, Mitsubishi also added a nifty smartphone app that allows consumers to monitor fuel levels, servicing intervals, etc for the 2020 Outlander Sport.

Most of what’s been shared so far comes down to looks and style. We should know more about the powertrain, most likely a choice of 2.0-liter or 2.4-liter engine optimized with Mitsubishi Motors Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control system (MIVEC). Along with their Reinforced Safety Impact Evolution (RISE) body construction, a Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM) braking system, Blind Spot Warning (BSW), and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) will most likely remain as the available safety features.
