The 2022 Kia Seltos Offers More Standard Features

The Kia Seltos took us all by surprise. This subcompact SUV first toured in India, and we weren’t sure if it would stay overseas or come to the states, but in late 2019, Kia announced that U.S. arrival of the Kia Seltos . Now in its 2022 model year, with a starting MSRP of $22,490 (plus destination fee), this would be a good time to know that the Kia Seltos is possibly one of a kind, where the base trim shines just as brightly as the rest of the lineup.

Powertrain

Made up of five trims, the LX, S, EX, Nightfall Edition, and SX, the first three trims are all powered by the same 2.0-liter DOHC I-4 engine, able to generate 146 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. The base trim would be the Kia Seltos LX. This is the trim we want to focus on, so for the engine type, this is all you need to know.

Engineering

Here is where things start to get interesting. Standard on the Kia Seltos is a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The LX is also one of the select trims to come with all-wheel drive (AWD) standard. Even with this drivetrain, the fuel economy is still strong, with an EPA-rated 27 mpg in city driving and 31 mpg on the highway.

Interior Space

A spacious cabin offers plenty of room for passengers and cargo. The Kia Seltos LX comes with cloth upholstery, but feels like premium material. With plenty of legroom in the rear, passengers can enjoy a reclining function on those long drives. Standard on the Kia Seltos is a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, making it possible to find different seating configurations and loading cargo. If just using the cargo space behind the rear seats, the Seltos offers 26.6 cubic-feet of space. If folding down the rear sears, the max volume expands to more than 62 cubic-feet.

Tech and Safety

The standard setup for the Kia Seltos is a standard 8-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity, a six-speaker audio system, voice recognition, Google Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability, Siri Eye Free, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, and a rear-camera display. Expanding the safety features this year, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, a driver attention monitor, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and automatic high-beam headlights can all be found on the 2022 Kia Seltos LX.

Warranty

Having one of the best warranty packages in the auto industry, every Kia model comes with a lot of coverage. Kia offers a 10-year/100,000-mile warranty program that consists of 10-year/100,000 mile limited powertrain warranty, 5-year/60,000 mile limited basic warranty, 5-year/100,000 mile limited anti-perforation warranty, and 5-year/60,000 mile roadside assistance plan.

We don’t blame consumers wanting more. On the higher end trims, the 2022 Kia Seltos offers plenty of great features. For starters, the infotainment screen increases to 10.25 inches and comes with SiriusXM Satellite Radio and navigation. Select trims also offer two USB ports, wireless smartphone charging, automatic climate control with rear heating and cooling ducts.
