2022 Kia Telluride Highlights

Kia Corp has revealed the 2022 model year for the largest SUV in the lineup, the Kia Telluride. Winning awards since its release, including the Triple Crown of Automotive awards, the Kia Telluride will continue to go strong for years to come. Continuing to keep it simple, the 2022 Kia Telluride still comes with only four trim levels, with front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) available, but SX has a new addition this year. Check out the specs below.

Engineering

The same powertrain will be returning to the large Kia SUV for the 2022 model year, starting soon if not already. Automakers like to release model years about halfway into the year preceding it. Under the hood of each 2022 Kia Telluride will be a 3.8-liter V6 Lambda-II engine, optimized with gasoline direct-injection (GDI) for the best performance this SUV can deliver. Able to generate 291 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, whether drivers choose FWD or AWD, they’re getting a solid ride out of this SUV. An electronically controlled 8-speed automatic transmission with a Sportmatic Sports Shifter sends the power to the wheels, with an EPA of 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway when choosing FWD, and a fuel economy of 19/24 mpg city/highway when choosing AWD.

The addition of SX-P is new this year, but it’s now a different kind of drivetrain. Known as “SX-Prestige”, the top-tier of the model has a starting MSRP of $46,890 (plus destination fee). This used to only be available as an add-on package, not already included with a trim level, and adds additional performance with active On-Demand AWD with AWD lock and snow driving modes and rain-sensing automatic wipers for those impossible to predict South Florida storms. Inside, consumers get to enjoy premium Nappa leather upholstery, heated and ventilated second-row seats, and a heated steering wheel. Add a little convenience, and the SX-P also comes with a heads-up display and a 110-volt household power outlet.

Exterior and Interior

The stats for the exterior features have not been released, so we suspect there is no change here for the 2022 model. That means standard features for the exterior of the 2022 Kia Telluride include heated outside mirrors with LED turn signal indicators, solar control glass, sound-absorbing windshield glass, privacy glass, rear wiper/washer, automatic headlamps, and a rear spoiler. For those looking to enjoy their SUV a little more, a sunroof and sound-absorbing front window glass can be found on the EX and SX trims. Inside, consumers are treated with leather or a leather synthetic for the upholstery. Options could definitely change this year, with more features added to the base LX trim, but nothing has been confirmed.

Technology

Technology is also changing drastically for Kia Corp vehicles in the coming years. With the Kia Google Assistant , Hello Kia , and other systems in the works, the UVO infotainment system is getting phased out from the lineup. We can only wait to see what details Kia Corp will share, but with not many changes between model years, UVO link may still be the standard in the 2022 Kia Telluride SUV, with Google Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and a six-speaker sound system the standard. The SX trim came with a Harman Kardon 10-speaker system with a subwoofer last year.

Last year, the standard automatic safety features included with every trim were lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot collision avoidance system assist, smart cruise control with stop & go, lane departure warning, a rear view monitor with dynamic parking guidance forward collision warning, parking distance warning when in reverse, a driver attention monitor, and safe exit assist. The latest PR only mentions several of these as the highlights, but all of those listed are still standard across the lineup. As always, Kia Corp offers great warranties on all new vehicles. This includes a 10-year/100,000-mile warranty, 10-year/100,000 mile warranty program consists of 10-year/1000,000 mile limited powertrain warranty, 5-year/60,000 mile limited basic warranty, 5-year/100,000 mile limited anti-perforation warranty, and 5-year/60,000 mile roadside assistance plan.
