Jeep Shows off at SEMA as the LA Auto Show Looms on the Horizon
We are officially in the final stretch of 2018, but plenty of 2019 model year vehicles are still pending to make their debuts. With the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show (Oct. 30 – Nov. 2) and the LA Auto Show (Nov. 30 – Dec. 9) scheduled to take place, the stage is set for some exciting revelations. A supercharged 2012 Jeep ® JK Wrangler from Raw Motorsports is fully loaded with aftermarket parts and is set to be unveiled at SEMA, while the long-awaited Jeep Scrambler is expected to be the talk of the town once it’s unveiled at the LA Auto Show.
Not open to the general public and known as a trade-only event that is limited to individuals currently working within the automotive aftermarket industry, SEMA is an auto show like no other. Year after year, automakers and aftermarket parts manufacturers bring their wildest creations to the show, leaving the attendees in awe. Raw Motorsports, an aftermarket parts manufacturer and installer from Southern California that primarily focuses on specialty vehicles, is ready to show off this year. The aftermarket manufacturer modified a 2012 Jeep Wrangler JK and transformed it into a high-performance off-roader to dazzle audiences, aptly-named the ‘Rawbicon’.
The Rawbicon’s original engine was replaced with a much more powerful (read much _ larger _ ) 6.4-liter SRT HEMI V8 engine and a Magnuson supercharger for increased power – both modifications paired with a six-speed transmission. Is there anyone out there that can handle this much power from a Jeep Wrangler? We’re sure there are plenty of Jeepers that are willing to try.
A ride on this kind of monster can definitely get bumpy, so to help with control and comfort, the folks over at Raw Motorsports equipped this Rawbicon with a long-arm suspension kit, a stage 2 front sway bar, Eibach racing coil springs, a custom stainless steel bar bumper, air bump shocks, 20-inch off-road wheels, and 40-inch Toyo MT Open Country Tires. There’s no terrain this thing can’t dominate! Plus, even this severely altered Rawbicon couldn’t escape the iconic fun in the sun feel of the Jeep brand, as a My Top eight second electric-retractable roof was installed.
Anticipation for the Jeep Scrambler has been building for a few years now since Jeep brand fanatics first heard the news of its impending manufacture. Lucky for them it appears as if the wait is almost over – according to industry experts, Jeep is likely to use the LA Auto Show to introduce the Scrambler – after all, this is the same stage the brand used last year to introduce the all-new Wrangler JL. Thanks to spy photos that have been making the rounds, there are a few Scrambler forums that are predicting the pickup will look very similar to a four-door Wrangler, albeit with a small truck bed in the back. Apparently, there may even be a Rubicon trim of the Scrambler in the works as well!
Scrambler forums are also convinced that the looks of the Wrangler aren’t the only thing that the new pickup is set to inherit – the same engine options are expected to find a home under the hood of the Scrambler as well. Engine options are expected to be between a classic 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 or a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. The Pentastar is capable of generating 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, while the four-cylinder engine can generate 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. As 2020 environmental regulations loom in the near future across the globe, the Jeep brand is said to be working on Diesel and Hybrid variants for the entire Jeep lineup. The Jeep Scrambler is set to go on sale as of April of next year (2019).
