Jeep Pickup Could Debut Sooner than Expected – Miami Lakes Automall Jeep
A lot of buzz has been growing behind the idea of a Jeep pickup. Though Jeep CEO Mike Manley has previously said that he is a “big fan” of the idea of a Jeep pickup, he also said that Jeep had other priorities , including production of the new Jeep Wrangler. A Jeep pickup was not listed on Fiat Chrysler Automobile’s plan through at least 2018.
However, a pickup may be among the Jeeps for sale at local lots sooner than that. Manley now says that Jeep is considering producing a pickup at the same time as its next-generation Wrangler, which will be released in 2017.
With all the buzz around the idea, the company would be foolish not to consider adding it to its lineup as soon as possible.
Jeep seems to be putting its toe in the water to test out the idea. At its Easter Jeep Safari in Moab later this week, it will introduce a concept known as the Red Rock Responder, which is a pickup version of the Wrangler. If fans respond positively to the concept, it could light a fire for Jeep to create a similar production model alongside the new Wrangler.
Manley said that a pickup could become part of the regular Jeep lineup after the next generation of the Wrangler is introduced. Tellingly, he made those comments on the same day that details about the Red Rock Responder were introduced.
Before it can commit to producing a pickup, Jeep first needs to figure out where it will produce the new Wrangler — which would presumably be the same place that a new pickup would be produced if it is based on the same platform. Determining a location will also be contingent upon the production capacity. Jeep experienced a stellar year in 2014 and expects to continue its success in 2015. Demand is only expected to grow.
Jeep is currently reviewing incentive offers from Toledo, Ohio, which is where the current Wrangler is produced. That plant is at capacity and will need to be expanded to meet future demand.
If Jeep can work out the issues concerning the next-generation Wrangler, it can start focusing on plans for the new pickup.
We’re excited about the possibility of a pickup being in the lineup of Jeeps for sale. We can’t wait to see what happens at the Easter Jeep Safari this week, and we hope Jeep enthusiasts can convey their excitement for the concept in a way that inspires Jeep to act.
