Gray Jeep Wagoneer S EV SUV Open Road Mountains WaterThe highly anticipated midsize SUV from Jeep, the premium Wagoneer, finally has a name! So everyone, please meet the Jeep Wagoneer S, the new addition to the family set to hit the market in 2024. Many referred to the “Wagoneer S” before, a codename that perfectly captured its impressive speed of 600 horsepower and estimated 0-60 mph time of just 3.5 seconds. Nonetheless, it’s time to get excited about the real deal, the Jeep Wagoneer S.

We may finally get the name in June (2023), along with a glimpse of the production version of the exciting new coupe-like electric SUV. This little beauty is smaller than the Jeep Grand Cherokee, and it’s the youngest member of the Wagoneer family. It’s also a game-changer as the first-ever all-electric model for the premium sub-brand. The road to naming this gem has been challenging. Nonetheless, Jeep officials held a list of potential names, including some old favorites and new contenders, which they debated and dissected. However, the American automaker wanted to leave no stone unturned and sought ideas from the public for the perfect moniker for this global sensation.

The Jeep Wagoneer S Contest

“It is hard to find a name that is clear around the world to use. We landed on a name that we already had, that was confirmed by many people among the 80,000, and we made a call, and we will announce it in June, potentially. It is a very simple name.”

 – Jeep Brand CEO Christian Meunier

What’s Known About the Jeep Wagoneer S

The upcoming Wagoneer will revolutionize the SUV market by utilizing the STLA Large platform. In addition, the large platform will also power electric Dodge muscle cars and a Chrysler crossover. With an expected range of 400 miles, this midsize SUV is guaranteed to impress. According to Ralph Gilles, the chief design officer for multiple Stellantis brands, the Wagoneer S stands out from its full-size counterparts because of its unique design. Unlike the massive Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, the S features a sleek and swoopy silhouette, complete with a reimagined roof that plunges beneath the rear wing. So get ready to be blown away by the future of all-electric SUVs.

“I think there is an iconic light signature that we are working on. The rest of it is about the presence of the vehicle, the cleanliness of the design. I’m really trying to establish the Wagoneer line as clean, premium, not chaotic. Something that is easy on the eyes, timeless. The interior is as gorgeous as the big brother.”

– Ralph Gilles, Stellantis Chief Design Officer

So Where’s the Jeep Wrangler EV?

It’s unclear when a pure electric Wrangler will hit the market, as Meunier and Gilles have remained tight-lipped. However, fans eagerly anticipate whether the electric version will have a manual transmission, as hinted by the Jeep Magneto concepts. Meunier promises that driving the EV will be a blast, but he’s keeping the details under wraps for now.

What we do know is that there are more Magneto concepts on the horizon, which could provide more insight into what we can expect from a Wrangler EV in the future. However, despite the excitement surrounding the Wrangler’s electric upgrade, Stellantis is focusing on the success of its 4xe plug-in hybrid technology, which has already proven popular.

Get ready to experience the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee lineup like never before! With the addition of a 4xe, V-6, and V-8, there’s no need to worry about missing out on the fantastic Hurricane engine, according to Meunier. The plug-in hybrid boasts incredible torque and impressive fuel efficiency – especially when fully charged.

The full-size Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Wagoneer are next in line to receive the 4xe treatment as hybrids. These electrified models are expected to be a hit in North America, with a range of 500 miles from the gas engine and electric motors. Plus, the premium SUVs serve as a perfect bridge to battery electric versions in the future. Yet, that’s not all – Jeep promises two more pure EVs for North America by the end of 2025, with one even filling the gap left by the original Jeep Cherokee. So get ready for a new Cherokee in 2025, with various powertrains, including hybrid and battery electric options.
