Why Adventure Comes Easy In a Jeep
The most adventurous and durable cars that will get you where you need to go and take you on a few adrenaline filled detours on the way are Jeep® vehicles. For those who love a good adventure, 4×4 off-roading is very fitting. No matter how brutal and intense the terrain may be, 4×4 off road driving is what these Jeeps are made for. Any Jeep with 4×4 off road capabilities will keep you entertained, whilst keeping your car in great condition and getting you through whatever terrain that may come your way. There are many components and subsystems that go into perfecting 4×4 systems for going off road and traversing various terrain, including but not limited to rock crawling, water fording, mudding, and perhaps even driving through a snowstorm.
Off-Road Differentials
To start off, the subsystem that is undoubtedly one of the most important for 4×4 Jeep systems is the off-road differentials, for more than one reason. This subsystem can include one of the three listed here: mechanical, electronic, or brake-assisted differentials. A quick explanation of what really makes this system so important is really because of the increase of traction of the tires that it leads to. The off-road differentials help with sending the highest amount of power to the wheels of the vehicle. Without this, your vehicle could be vulnerable to a decrease of control, thus leading to loss of control of the vehicle when going on an extravagant off-roading adventure.
Front Sway Bar Disconnect System
When your Jeep is all set up and ready to be taken on its next journey, through whatever terrain it may be, there are some subsystems that most people should be aware of. Some systems may not have to necessarily be engaged throughout the entire ride, for example the front sway bar disconnect system. The front sway bar disconnect system actually allows you to disengage the front sway bar, also known as the anti-roll bar. Sway bars are meant to stabilize the car when it leans to one direction, but when you’re driving at a lower speed the function needs to be different, especially when driving through rocky terrain. When a driver is going at a speed that is under 18 mph in low 4 mode and the vehicle has a front sway bar disconnect system, then the front wheels are able to drop and compress for better movement and versatility of the vehicle.
Skid Plates
Now this 4×4 component comes standard for most Jeep vehicles, and they are called skid plates. Skid plates are made of very strong steel making it as durable as possible, which is an extremely important feature for anyone seeking off-road adventures. The reason why skid plates are so important is because of their engineering technique that is made for the protection of the core of the Jeep, or its mechanical components. When coming across rugged terrain such as rocks and boulders, you’re going to be thankful for those skid plates
Rock Rails
Rock rails, also sometimes referred to as rock sliders or sill guards, are another component within the 4×4 Jeep systems. These tough and sturdy rails mounted onto the body of the car also help provide protection to the vehicle when going off-roading in any extreme terrain. They are mainly provided as additional safety for the protection of the door sills and the door bottoms.
Body-On-Frame Design
For Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Wrangler Unlimited vehicles, the body-on-frame design is built within the frame. Body-on-frame designs are extraordinarily tough and flexible, making them that much more suitable for off-roading in intense and harsh conditions. A brief explanation of what a body-on-frame design is consists of a seperate body that is mounted on a frame of a car. The reason why this frame has significance is mainly because of the way it is designed, that being strong and durable, make it capable of surviving harsh conditions, such as going through jagged rocks, mud, or snow.
