At the request of consumers, Chevy is bringing back a track model that was first introduced in 1967. The original design of the Camaro Z28 was focused on race performance, and that intention remains.

Serious Cornering Ability

Tested on some of the best tracks around the world, the Z28 is constructed for optimum aerodynamics. It has a front splitter that can take 250 pounds of downforce, improving cornering and keeping the car secure.

Stability is also contributed to by a rear spoiler with a “wickerbill,” a small tab at the edge. This addition makes it possible to take turns at higher speeds.

The forged aluminum Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires are the widest front tires in its class. They stick like crazy when the conditions are right. A built in pressure gauge is mounted on dash so the driver can properly warm the wheels, getting them to the perfect temp for traction.

Lightweight Build

In order to become a true track car, the Camaro had to strip down . A lot of interior features, such as the AC and surround sound, were dropped to lighten up.

But those features that you typically use on the road aren’t necessary here. Though street legal, this model clearly loves the track.

Power

First of all, the Camaro Z28 can sprint from 0-60 in 4.2 seconds. It’s 7 liter V8 with 505 hp makes it a formidable foe.

The Z28 has already proven that it’s a considerable match, beating out the Porsche 911’s lap time at the Nürburgring. Max speed is around 180 mph, reached by clean shifts with the 6-speed manual transmission.

And with so much speed, this model obviously requires some serious braking power. No problem. Its Brembo carbon ceramic brakes can rapidly get the Z28 in check.
