GM Plans New Overhaul For Chevy Express Van – Miami Lakes Automall Chevrolet
General Motors (GM) has big plans for the Chevy Express van. The full-size van has been around for some time, replacing the Chevy van in 1996. Since then, GM has made some changes and improvements but never anything significant. Despite this, the Chevy Express has continued to serve as a reliable and capable van. Now the time has come for the Chevy Express to see an all-new makeover. The full-size van will receive a new redesign and changes under the hood. It will still have a combustion engine, however. This may be surprising as Chevy has been leaning into electric vehicles lately with its all-new Chevy Silverado EV and Colorado EV . While the decision to remain with a combustion engine may seem counterintuitive, Chevy ensures that it keeps the qualities that make the Chevy Express a reliable van.
Chevy Express Will See New Changes
General Motors (GM) will make changes to the Chevy Express. The full-size van will receive a new redesign as well as some new changes underneath the hood. Having remained relatively unchanged since 1996, GM feels it is time that its passenger van receives some improvements to help it stay relevant among the competition. For one, the Chevy Express will ride on a revised platform called GMT 620. Details remain under wraps, but with a new platform, it’s expected that the van will see further upgrades to its powertrain. Production of the new Chevy Express is likely to occur at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.
Additional changes to the Chevy Express will affect the overall design of the full-size van. Again, details have yet to be released, so we’re stuck with the expectation that we will see a brand-new Express sometime in the future. Currently, the Chevy Express provides seating for up to 15 people and offers plenty of room for equipment. The van features a full-frame design and offers several configuration options. Owners can opt for cargo, passenger, or cutaway styles. Each offers distinctive features that are tailored to the needs of the owner.
For its engine options, the Chevy Express offers either a 4.3L V6 engine or a 6.6L V8 engine. The 4.3L delivers 276 horsepower and 298 lb-ft of torque, while the 6.6L delivers 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque. The full-size van also offers up to 4,280 pounds of payload capacity. For safety, the Express features side blind zone alerts, lane departure warnings, forward collision alerts, and a rear vision camera. The 2023 Chevy Express starts at an MSRP of $38,100 (plus destination fee). While we do not know much about the new Express, GM will likely add additional features to assist drivers. For now, we will be staying tuned for more information.
