Exorcist Chevy Camaro ZL1 v. Dodge Challenger SRT Demon
The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon was hyped up for months before its recent release, but it already has a competitor! Hennessey Performance, a well-known performance parts company, modified a Camaro ZL1 and created the Exorcist Camaro ZL1 in hopes to chase the Challenger SRT Demon away. So, can the Exorcist Camaro ZL1 beat the Challenger SRT Demon? Here’s a closer look at what both vehicles can do.
Engine and Performance
The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon features a very powerful supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI Demon V8 engine, which pumps out 840 horsepower and 770 lb.ft. of torque. The Exorcist Camaro ZL1 is equipped with a supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V8 engine that produces 1000 horsepower and 966 lb-ft of torque, which is significantly more than the Challenger SRT Demon.
Additional Performance Parts
In addition to highly modified engines, both vehicles have several performance parts to harness all of the power they produce. Here’s a quick list of special performance parts on each vehicle.
Dodge Challenger SRT Demon
- Stronger and upgraded drive shaft.
- 12.6-inch wide drag radials.
- 200 pounds lighter than the Hellcat.
- Upgraded air intake system.
- Beefed up rear axle and larger half shafts.
Exorcist Chevy Camaro ZL1
- Upgraded valve springs, retainers, lifters, push rods, intake valves and exhaust valves.
- Intercooler heat exchange and high flow intercooling systems that used the car’s air conditioning to cool down the engine.
- HPE engine management calibration.
- Long-tube stainless steel headers.
Track Times
So what do all of those modifications do for each vehicle? Exact track times of the Exorcist Chevy Camaro haven’t been released, but sources say the vehicle accelerates from 0-60 in “under three seconds” and does a quarter-mile in “less than 10 seconds.” The Dodge Demon accelerates from 0-60 in 2.3 seconds and does a quarter-mile in 9.65 seconds.
So, although the Exorcist Camaro ZL1 has more horsepower and torque, without official track times, it’s hard to say if it could be the Challenger SRT Demon in a race. The Challenger SRT Demon’s 0-60 time of 2.3 seconds would be hard to beat.
Availability and Price
One thing that is definitely different about both of these vehicles is availability and price. The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is such an amazing vehicle because it’s a factory produced vehicle, it’s not just a few parts or tweaks, Dodge and SRT have created a product that can be mass produced. Additionally, its ability to be mass produced will help keep costs of the vehicle down. So far, it looks like the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon will be priced around $85,000 and about 3,000 vehicles will be made.
The Exorcist Camaro ZL1 will not be mass produced and its modifications are said to be an additional $55,000 on top of the base price of the Camaro ZL1 ($61,000) — putting its total price tag at around $116,000! As far as availability, Hennessey Performance says they will be able to sell about 100 Exorcist models per year.
