Best Family Car: 2019 Chevrolet Traverse

March 20th, 2019 by

The Chevrolet Traverse is on its second year of a significant redesign for 2019, and it continues to garner honors as the roomy and well-equipped family hauler. The Traverse is the family station wagon; it’s a 3-row crossover SUV with available all-wheel drive and seating for up to eight. This vehicle has a lot of pluses for those looking for more than just room.

FEATURES:

The Traverse’s SmartSlide second-row sear, a standard on the vehicle, makes it easier to get to the third row, which aided by a curbside seat can be slid forward. Teen Driver is also standard in the 2019 Traverse. When you order a Traverse with the new LT Premium Package, Surround Vision, which prevents low-speed back-up tragedies, comes with it.

The vehicle comes with four cameras that provide the driver with a potentially life-saving 360-degree that is used to see around the car. A few models come with more features. The Traverse comes available with a Convenience and Driver Confidence Package which has a power liftgate, an 8-inch color touch screen, a blind-spot warning system and, rear cross-traffic alert.

ENTERTAINMENT:

Chevrolet vehicles allow passengers to stay connected every day as it offers everything from entertainment and safety to navigation and communication. The infotainment system integrates with mobile devices which will enable the driver to focus on the road ahead when driving. Everything from calls, texts, music and more are all at their fingertips with the phone connectivity.

The Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system allows integration and organizes technology; meaning storing phones away while driving but still be entertained and informed on the road. From safety features, like rear-view camera and Teen Driver technology to hotspot connectivity and Bluetooth audio streaming there can be more than one active device. The Chevrolet offers those features and entertainment for driver and passengers to enjoy.

All Chevrolet Infotainment Systems offer OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation with a paid subscription. Additional features are Chevrolet Infotainment 3 System Plus and Chevrolet Infotainment 3 System Premium with Navigation. Both systems feature embedded enhanced voice recognition that alerts to gas stations, food stops and other points of interests.

POWERTRAINS:

The Traverse 2019 has two smooth powertrains options. The standard engine available is a 3.6-liter V6 and a 9-speed automatic transmission. The powerplant, which has 310 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque, feels laid back when driving, which is 350 pounds lighter than the previous version from the 2017 model.

It’s not as efficient as the front-drive V6 model on the highway, going from 26 mpg versus from the 27 mpg in EPA testing. A turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine is still available, but you’ll only find it in the front-wheel-drive RS. Even though the Turbo 4-cylinder puts out 257 horsepower and a 295 lb-ft, it drops the maximum trailering capacity of the 2019 Traverse from 6,000 pounds to 1,500.

SEATS:

The folding 3-seat rear bench does not face rearward, but it’s more spacious, with enough room and easy third-row access from the curbside. In addition to being able to drive around an entire kid’s basketball team, there’s plenty of storage space for strollers and lawn chairs. There’s plenty of small stowage spots for embellishments, the Traverse display screen and a place hidden beneath the rear cargo floor.

SAFETY:

When it comes to crash prevention, Traverse doesn’t joke around. The mid-size SUV uses available cameras, ultrasonic sensors, and radar to help passengers lookout for potential dangers and it helps them avoid collisions before they happen. The 2019 Traverse received a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score for safety from NHTSA.
