2024 Chevy Camaro ZL1 Vs. 2024 Ford Mustang GT, Which Wins Out?

In an age where EVs are quickly becoming the norm, many consumers may feel that sports cars are slowly drifting away. Thankfully, while automakers race to produce the most efficient and capable EVs, sports cars like the 2024 Chevy Camaro ZL1 and 2024 Ford Mustang GT continue to rev their powerful engines. Both the Camaro and Mustang have solidified themselves as top contenders in the sports car segment offering impressive performance and capability. Many would say they are the complete opposite of EVs. In a show against EVs, we thought we’d compare both and see which proves to be the better sports car for those enthusiasts who are still holding on tight against the incoming EV wave.

 2024 Chevy Camaro ZL1 Vs. 2024 Ford Mustang GT

To start, we’ll take a look at the performance of the 2024 Chevy Camaro ZL1 and see how it compares against the 2024 Ford Mustang GT. Both sports cars are impressive in their own right but comparatively, we’ll see which fares better. The Camarao ZL1 arrives with a supercharged 6.2L V8 engine that delivers 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. The Mustang GT arrives with a 5L V8 that delivers 480 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. Clearly, there is a difference in power here and the Camaro demonstrates that difference with its 3.5 second 0-60 time. The Mustang hits 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds. While the Camaro wins out in terms of performance, it does suffer in terms of fuel economy. Equipped with a manual transmission, the Mustang GT sees 14 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. The Camaro ZL1 on the other hand sees 14 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway. 

Looking inside both sports cars, owners will find attractive interior features. The Mustang sports a modern cabin with contemporary upholstery options. For features, the sports car has a 13.2-inch touchscreen with a 12-speaker audio system. There’s also a Wi-Fi hotspot. Inside the Camaro, owners will note a more retro-themed cabin with hard plastics serving as the upholstery. The sports car features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto but it only offers an 8-inch touchscreen along with a 9-speaker audio system. Cargo space is not a quality many look toward with muscle cars, but the Camaro offers 9 cubic feet of space in the coupe and 7 cubic feet in the convertible. The Mustang GT offers 13.5 cubic feet on the other hand. Both sports cars seat four people and offer comfortable (in the front) bucket seats.

The Verdict

Both the 2024 Chevy Camaro ZL1 and the 2024 Ford Mustang GT are two impressive sports cars with a lot to offer. The Camaro comes out on top however with its higher performance and sharper handling. While the Ford Mustang GT offers better interior features and starts at an MSRP of $42,710 (plus destination fee), for the muscle car enthusiast the Camaro ZL1 can’t be beaten. It starts at a higher MSRP of  $73, 695 (plus destination fee) but given its equipment, it’s well worth the additional cost. The Camaro ZL1 features an upgraded suspension with a larger powertrain making for an engaging driving experience. For those in defiance of the EV wave, the 2024 Chevy Camaro ZL1 proves to be a great option.
