The next-generation Chevy Bolt EV was confirmed. General Motors announced the all-electric hatchback would have its comeback in the 2025 model year. The automaker initially hinted that the Bolt EV may be discontinued, but we now know the electric SUV will instead see a major upgrade. Riding on General Motors’ Ultium platform, the next-generation 2025 Chevy Bolt will offer consumers a more dynamic SUV with the same affordability. While Chevy has been focused on its other Ultium-based EVs, like the all-new Silverado EV and Equinox EV, production saw slight delays. Fortunately, Chevy has resolved its production challenges and will now be moving forward along with the new Chevy Bolt EV. We’ll take a closer look at the next-generation hatchback and see what consumers can expect.

2025 Chevy Bolt EV Upgrades To Ultium Platform

The 2025 Chevy Bolt EV has been confirmed by General Motors (GM) CEO Mary Barra. Barra recently spoke at the Automotive Press Association in Detroit, stating that the Chevy Bolt EV will arrive in 2025 on GM’s Ultium platform. This comes after rumors that the Bolt EV would be discontinued so this is exciting news. GM’s Ultium EV platform serves as the underpinning for the automaker’s electric vehicles. Riding on the Ultium EV platform, the Chevy Bolt EV would see increased power, range, and performance. EVs that use the Ultium platform can also utilize various combinations of motors and battery modules for the perfect balance of speed and power.

While we do not have confirmation of any performance specifications for the 2025 Bolt EV, we can expect increases in overall capability and versatility. The 2023 Chevy Bolt EV delivers 200 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque in the form of a single-motor setup. Equipped with front-wheel drive, the SUV offers drivers impressive acceleration and handling. Upgrading to the Ultium platform may see these numbers increase further improving the hatchback. Its current 259 miles of battery range would also see an increase.

Alongside the 2025 Chevy Bolt EV are the Blazer, Silverado EV, and Equinox EV. Chevy’s line of EVs continues to grow more impressive and, thanks to the Ultium platform, more affordable. The 2025 Bolt EV will be the first of Chevy’s EV line to use LFP batteries. LFP battery cells prove more durable, handle more charge cycles, and are better at consistent fast charging. By using these batteries, Chevy can continue to offer a great lineup while lowering costs for customers. We do not yet have confirmation of an MSRP for the next-generation Bolt EV, given the use of LFP batteries, we expect the electric hatchback to land within the $30,000-$35,000 range (plus destination fee).
