There’s a lot of different factors consumers consider before making a vehicle purchase, and one factor that is important to almost all consumers is dependability, so why not go with a Chevy model? J.D. Power recently released the results from the 2018 Dependability Study and Chevy did AWESOME.

Chevrolet (tied with Hyundai) was ranked as the sixth most dependable brand, four Chevy models were ranked most dependable in their class and six other Chevy models ranked in the top three of their class – that’s extremely impressive.

Chevy Dependability

Overall, Chevy had 124 problems per 100 cars, which made it (and Hyundai) the sixth best ranked brand out of 31 brands and Chevy had more top three segment rankings in this year’s study than any other automaker.

In individual car segments four Chevy models had the lowest number of problems per 100 cars, and only one other brand had four models with the best score in their classes. The Chevy Silverado ranked best in the light-duty truck segment; the Chevy Equinox ranked best in the compact SUV segment; the Chevy Traverse ranked best in the midsize SUV segment; and the Chevy Malibu ranked best in the midsize car segment.

Also, six Chevy models finished top three in their segment and they include the Chevy Sonic (small car), Chevy Camaro (midsize sporty car), Chevy Impala (large car), Chevy Trax (small SUV), Chevy Tahoe (large SUV) and Chevy Silverado HD (heavy-duty truck).

What’s special about Chevy’s high dependability scores is that Chevy doesn’t just focus on creating similar variations of their products, but they produce dependable models in 10 of the 14 possible segments (6 segments only look at luxury brands).

J.D. Power Dependability Study

J.D. Power conducts a number of customer surveys every year and for the dependability study, owners are asked about the number of problems their three-year-old (2015 model year) vehicle has. That data is then translated into problems per 100 cars, and the vehicles and brands with the lowest number of problems per cars are the ones ranked highest. The dependability study is one of the major automotive J.D. Power studies because it provides consumers with an idea of how their car experience might be in the long run, rather than the first year or first few months of ownership.
