The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is the Top Rated Truck for 2020 According to Edmunds
Edmunds named the Ram 1500 the Top Rated Truck for 2020. Editors show love to the full-size pickup in its Top Rated awards that span over seven categories and are seen as recognizing excellence in today’s automotive market. The winner of each category represents the best of each respective segment because Edmunds tests each and every competitive vehicle on the market.
“The Ram 1500 just keeps getting better and is once again our Top Rated Truck for 2020,” said Alistair Weaver, editor-in-chief, Edmunds. “We still love its technology, interior built quality, ride comfort and capability, but the new EcoDiesel variant introduced this year delivers even stronger fuel economy, more torque and improved towing capability. The Ram 1500 easily remains the most desirable pickup truck on the market.”
The one Ram 1500 variant that’s making a big splash is the one powered by the all-new 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 as it leads the half-ton pickup segment with its diesel towing capability of 12,560 pounds and its 480 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is the industry’s leader when it comes to fuel range. When equipped with a 33-gallon fuel tank, the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel offers drivers an outrageous driving range that exceeds 1,000 miles.
The third generation — and new-and-improved — turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine not only delivers increased horsepower and torque, but it also offers superb fuel economy numbers and reduced levels of noise, vibration, and harshness. All features more than exceed the needs of Ram 1500 owners. The previously-mentioned 480 lb-ft of torque marks a 14 percent increase when compared to the last-generation EcoDiesel engine, while horsepower also increases a total of 8 percent to 260 horsepower. Available in all trims and configurations, the 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel also marks the first time that the truck maker is offering a diesel powertrain for the Ram Rebel trim.
Since 2009, when Ram branched out as a stand-alone division, the brand has been focused on developing and delivering pickups that meet the demands of buyers. The current lineup includes the Ram 1500, Ram 2500, Ram 3500 Heavy Duty models, the Ram 4500, Ram 5500 Chassis Cab, and the ProMaster and ProMaster City cargo vans. Here are some other benchmarks that prove Ram holds its own:
- Segment first 1,000 lb.-ft of torque with Cummins Turbo Diesel
- Most interior space with Ram Mega Cab
- Towing capacity of 35,100 lbs. with Ram 3500
- Highest owner loyalty of any half-ton pickup
- Payload of 7,680 lbs. with Ram 3500
- Most luxurious: Ram Limited with real wood, real leather and 12-inch Uconnect touchscreen
