Ram Trucks are officially back-to-back champs as MotorTrend named the Ram Heavy Duty the 2020 Truck of the Year. The 2019 Ram 1500 was the winner of the title last year, as voted on by the editors of the publication. Ram Truck only became a standalone brand ten years ago, after splitting off from Dodge, and it’s won MotorTrend’s Truck of the Year honor five times: 2010, 2013, 2014, 2019, and 2020.
MotorTrend’s award intentionally recognizes vehicles with exceptional value, impact on the automotive scene, and superiority in their respective segments. The accolade represents one of the most coveted awards in the industry, often seen as the pinnacle of an extremely competitive segment. “The new Ram Heavy Duty makes a powerful statement about our company and the Ram Truck brand. In a brutally competitive truck industry, earning MotorTrend’s Truck of the Year title in consecutive years reaffirms the fact that we have the best light- and heavy-duty trucks on the road today,” said Reid Bigland, Head of Ram.
The MotorTrend “Truck of the Year” program is open to any all-new or revamped 2020 model-year pickups. Unlike what many readers may think, pickups are not necessarily compared against one another. Instead, MotorTrend puts the pickups through various performance tests that are intended to evaluate all aspects of a vehicle. Once this phase is done, MotorTrend then evaluates the pickups on three separate courses, meaning professional automotive test centers, before the finalist is selected.
Once the weeks of testing conclude, the MotorTrend judges make final determinations on the recipients. Once again, MotorTrend makes it a point to reiterate that finalists don’t compete against one another, but are judged against the award’s six criteria. The six criteria considered include: value, performance of intended function, engineering excellence, efficiency, safety, and design advancement.
“Ram Heavy Duty is MotorTrend’s 2020 Truck of the Year because it delivers unmatched performance, capability and style to the ultra-competitive truck segment,” stated MotorTrend Editor-in-Chief Edward Loh. “Engineered for work and play, Ram 2500 and 3500 reward true truckers with unflappable powertrains, sumptuous, high-tech interiors and a range of thoughtful utility features. Congratulations to Ram for back-to-back Truck of the Year wins,” Loh added.
Ram Heavy Duty
The newly-revamped Ram Heavy Duty pickups feature extreme performance and best-in-class towing capabilities. The 2020 Ram Heavy Duty offers buyers towing power up to 35,100 pounds and a payload capacity of 7,680 pounds. When outfitted with the Cummins inline-six turbo diesel engine, the 2020 Ram Heavy Duty offers a whopping 1,000 lb-ft of torque, an impressive figure that eclipses the competition. There’s also a class-exclusive link-coil rear suspension system, as well as an optional rear air suspension that makes the Ram Heavy Duty a tough pickup to beat.
MotorTrend will issue a full report on its Truck of the Year in January (2020), but in the meantime, you can explore the Ram Heavy Duty lineup here at Miami Lakes AutoMall.
