Ram Releases North Edition for 1500
Ram Trucks is an automaker that always seems to be presenting something new. Although many consumers out there are fans of the power and capabilities Ram trucks offer, new vehicle concepts have yet to show up. No, what’s been pretty popular for the auto brand in recent years has placed a large focus on appearance packages and option groups that may change the way a consumer shops for a truck. The latest package with a few add-ons is the 2019 Ram 1500 North Edition, and will be made available in Ram dealerships in all 50 states.
Is It Just Skin Deep?
Sometimes, a package for a Ram truck is purely for appearances. Take the 2018 Mojave Sand Package for instance. Initially made available for the Ram 1500 and then the 2500 due to its popularity, the Mojave Sand doesn’t change much. The true performance comes from the trim the appearance package is slapped onto – the Ram 2500 Power Wagon.
The Mojave Sand appearance package adds on a new paint job and new wheels, consisting of either a Mojave Sand or a Black/Mojave Sand two-tone paint job and all-black wheels wrapped in 33-inch Goodyear tires. Built for the Ram 2500 Power Wagon, this package automatically equips the Power Wagon’s Heavy Duty Luxury package, adding LED lighting in the bed, power heated/folding mirrors and a garage door opener to the truck. Like we said, it’s mostly just upgrades for the appearance, but that’s alright. The Ram 2500 pickup truck is already powered by a 410hp 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine and is equipped with heavy-duty rear axles and Bilstein shocks, 14.3-inches of ground clearance, a unique Ram “Articulink” front suspension system, and a new sway-bar disconnect system for additional flexibility and axle articulation.
There’s a Big Difference
There’s a big difference between a new special edition that is purely aesthetics and a special edition that is made to handle different environments and road conditions. The latter is exactly what the new 2019 Ram 1500 North Edition was made for. Using the Ram 1500 Big Horn as its foundation, the North Edition comes with a Crew Cab, 4×4 drivetrain, and can be either powered by the 305hp 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine equipped with a mild-hybrid eTorque system or the 395hp 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine with or without eTorque. We would suggest to go with the standard V6 or opt-in for the HEMI V8 with eTorque for the torque boost the mild-hybrid system produces.
When it comes to winter months, we in South Florida may not need to worry much about the snow. It might get a little windy or chilly at times though, and that’s why the interior comes with adds heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and dual-zone climate control. If one to enjoy the cool nights with the windows down, consumers may be interested in the optional panoramic moonroof available to the Big Horn.
When it comes to the 2019 Ram 1500 North Edition, several changes have been made to tackle snow-covered roads and rough terrain. The 2019 Ram 1500 North Edition comes with a 1-inch factory lift, engine block heater, a 4×4 transfer case, n electronically locking rear axle, heavy-duty shocks, exposed tow hooks, a Class IV receiver hitch, hill-descent control, and heated exterior mirrors. Three-peak mountain snowflake on/off-road Falken LT tires rated for severe snow service are wrapped around the wheels.
As noted, this special edition will make its way around the U.S., so those of us in warm or cold weather climates can still enjoy all the North Edition has to offer.
