Mopar is Taking the Ultimate Overlanding Ram Truck to SEMA

It’s that time of the year again, the 2019 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show kicks off on November 5th and runs through the 8th. Like every prior year, Mopar will be present to showcase its aftermarket Mopar parts along with other prototype parts and accessories. A total of 14 Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) vehicles will be showcased at the event and one of those vehicles is a Ram 1500 Rebel OTG (Off The Grid) overlanding concept. As the premier automotive specialty products trade exhibition worldwide, SEMA is the perfect stage for Mopar and FCA vehicles to shine.

“These vehicles showcase how Mopar is constantly expanding and exploring new ideas to meet the needs and fuel the imagination of our passionate fans,” stated Mark Bosanac, Head of Mopar Service, Parts and Customer Care, FCA —  North America. “Whether it’s overlanding in remote locations or reimagining an alternative classic design history, Mopar has its customers covered,” added Bosanac.

Ram 1500 Rebel OTG (Off The Grid) Concept

The overlanding movement has grown considerably in the past decade, and Mopar is ready to help its customers make their customization dreams come true. Along with various leading outdoor equipment suppliers, Mopar innovated the Ram 1500 OTG concept, a vehicle designed for the ultimate travel adventure. “Unlike traditional ‘four-wheeling,’ in overlanding the journey is the final objective. The goal is to explore rather than conquer obstacles. This is why we developed this concept, to allow vehicle-supported, self-reliant adventure travel, typically exploring remote locations and interacting with other cultures. This is the vehicle that I’d like to have whenever I choose to go ‘off the grid’,” said Joe Dehner, Head of Ram Truck and Mopar Design.

So what does the OTG concept offer? It’s based on the new 2020 Ram 1500 Rebel and equipped with the new-and-improved 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine. Perfect for overlanding, the EcoDiesel offers an extended driving range, exceptional low-end torque, and a massive 33-gallon tank that’s ideal for long-distance travel. Not only is it based on a Rebel trim, but Mopar has also added a two-inch lift kit, 35-inch Goodyear tires, and beadlock wheels. Other Mopar accessories include a front bumper with an integrated winch, a functional snorkel air intake, front- and rear-wheel flares, step assist rock rails, and a larger grille with RAM badging. The concept even includes the brand’s one-of-a-kind 60/40 multifunction tailgate, that with its swing-away doors makes it even easier to customize this Ram truck for extended adventures.

Mopar also added a bed rack system on the truck bed that carried a collapsible roof tent, a battery-powered cooler, a kitchen unit with a gas-powered stove, and a sink with an on-board water system. There’s even some additional storage room above the cab for tools and equipment. In order to free up some cargo capacity, Mopar opted for not only a solar panel set that can be deployed to generate electricity, but the aftermarket parts specialists also included a backup power supply that eliminates the need for a gas-powered generator.

The Ram 1500 Rebel OTG concept has a Mojave Sand exterior finish and is complemented by unique accents — including a Mopar Rebel hood graphic — to reinforce its outdoor theme.
