2019 Ram 2500 Highlights
The fifth-generation Ram 2500 Heavy-Duty was initially introduced at the 2019 North American International Auto Show. It competes directly with other heavy-duty full-size pickups such as the Ford F-250 Super Duty, the GMC Sierra 2500HD and Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD. Here’s a summary of the highlights that make the 2019 Ram 2500 the truck to beat in its segment:
Trims
The 2019 Ram 2500 comes in six different trims – Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, Power Wagon, Laramie Longhorn and Limited. Top tiers such as the Laramie Longhorn and Limited offer exclusive perks for those drivers seeking a truck that caters to both business and leisure.
Powertrain
A 410-horsepower 6.4-liter V8 engine with 429 lb-ft of torque is the base engine found under the hood of the base tier trims. The most powerful engine available to the entire lineup is a 370-horsepower 6.7-liter Cummins turbo diesel inline 6 that comes with a whopping 850 lb-ft of torque. There’s no hybrid or full-electric powertrains available, although there is an eTorque system available that can be paired with the V8 engine to improve fuel economy. With an effective Engine-Stop-Start feature and regenerative energy that can be used to power the truck before the gas engine can, the Ram 2500 HD is looking to be the efficient truck of the future. The 2019 Ram 2500 offers either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission.
Safety
All 2019 Ram 2500 pickups come standard with six airbags, including front-seat-mounted side airbags, side-curtain airbags and multistage front airbags. Additionally, standard safety equipment includes hill-start assist, a rear-backup camera, and low-beam daytime running headlamps. Other advanced safety features such as blind-spot monitoring, cross-path detection, Parksense front and rear park-assist system, trailer-sway damping and trailer brake control are all optional upgrades.
Infotainment
A four-speaker sound system with the Uconnect 3 infotainment platform and a 5-inch touchscreen display with a media hub that includes two USB ports, an audio jack and Bluetooth connectivity all come standard as part of the Ram 2500 infotainment package. The Limited trim features a 17-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system, Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto connectivity, SiriusXM satellite radio – all with an 8.4-inch touchscreen display. Buyers can opt to upgrade to a Uconnect 4C system complete with navigation and an impressive 12-inch display.
Comfort and Convenience
Active Grille Shutters come standard on every 2019 Ram 2500 to improve aerodynamics and fuel economy ratings. There’s also a 12-volt auxiliary power outlet that comes standard on all Ram 2500 pickups. 17-inch steel wheels come standard on the Tradesman trim, while 18-inch chrome steel wheels are the standard beginning with the Big Horn trim. Buyers can enjoy eight-way power adjustable seats – both heated and ventilated – on the Limited trim only.
