The 2023 Mitsubishi Mirage is the Most Affordable Car in America

August 23rd, 2023 by

Last week, we discussed the discontinuation of the Mitsubishi Mirage, the most fuel-efficient passenger car in America that is still all gasoline. The Mirage is also one of the most affordable cars on the market for consumers looking for a good new car that is budget-friendly and won’t be too much power to handle while providing modern tech and safety features. With a starting MSRP of $16,245 (plus destination fee), the Mitsubishi Mirage is the only vehicle on the market under $20,000. Some sources say the axe won’t come until 2025, so there’s still time before the era of cars this affordable comes to an end.

Power

The 2023 Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback comes in three trims – ES, LE, SE, and BE. All trims are powered by the same engine, a 1.2L MIVEC DOHC design, capable of generating 78 horsepower and 74 lb-ft of torque. This is paired with an INVECS-III continuously variable transmission (CVS). Able to shift gears seamlessly, the Mirage offers a fuel economy of 36 mpg in the city and 43 mpg on the highway.

Style

The exterior of the 2023 Mitsubishi Mirage comes with some nice standard features, including LED taillights and 14-inch alloy wheels. Things get a little better after the base ES trim with automatic headlights, rain sensing wipers, and ride on 15-inch alloy wheels. For some added style, the Mirage also offers its own “blacked out” treatment with a “Black Edition” badge, black wheel locks and lug nuts, a black roof spoiler, and black side mirrors.

Inside, the standard setup for the cabin is a six-way adjustable driver seat and a four-way adjustable passenger seat. Automatic climate control is a lineup standard, but the upholstery varies. The base ES comes with cloth, whereas consumers can get a combination of fabric and synthetic leather and heated front seats past the base, with red stitching in the BE trim. A leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear shift knob also appear in the SE and BE trims.

Tech

Sporting some modern tech, a 7-inch smartphone-link display audio system is the standard across the lineup. This features a four-speaker system, AM/FM Radio Bluetooth wireless tech, Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto capability, steering wheel audio and phone controls, and steering wheel voice recognition control. Safety features cover the basics, consisting of advanced dual-stage airbags (including the driver’s knee airbag), three-point seatbelts, anti-locking brakes, active stability control and traction systems, a LATCH child seat tether system, an anti-theft engine immobilizer. There are some advanced safety features, such as Forward Collision Mitigation system with Pedestrian Detection (standard) and Lane Departure Warning (SE and BE).

Warranty

Having one of the best coverage plans in the industry, Mitsubishi Motors car warranties cover a lot for a long time. All Mitsubishi vehicles are covered by a basic limited warranty for 5 years/60,000 miles, a powertrain limited warranty for 10 years/100,000 miles, and 7 years or 100,000 miles of anti-corrosion coverage. All this in addition to roadside assistance for a limited time.
