Three Kia SUVs Land on KBB 2023 Best Buy Awards List
Every year, automotive publications and journalists put together their “Best of” lists, hold competitions, and conduct studies. As we near ever-closer to 2023, we’ll see the last winnings roll in, and the most recent comes from a very well-known name in the industry – Kelley Blue Book (KBB). Putting together its “Best Buy Awards”, several Kia models have been named on this list as the best model in their respective category. The models listed are the Kia Telluride, Seltos, and Sportage Plug-in Hybrid sport-utility vehicles.

The Kia Telluride has been snagging awards since its release, and being named on the KBB Best Buy Awards definitely wouldn’t be a first. This is actually the fourth consecutive year that the Telluride has been named as a category winner for the Best 3-Row Midsize SUV class. Other classes included are the Best Subcompact SUV, won by the Kia Seltos. The Kia Sportage PHEV, a plug-in hybrid electric variant of the popular SUV, took the title of for the best Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles category. Being in its first year of production, this is a solid win and bragging rights for the PHEV SUV.
Models were chosen to be on the list by editors from Kelley Blue Book. Best Buy candidates went through a process of extensive evaluation of subjective and objective metrics. These include seating comfort, ease of entry and exit, luggage space, amenities, infotainment systems, build quality, cabin materials, and pricing, plus resale value and operating costs. Thousands of hours are spent driving and researching hundreds of cars to find the best-of-the-best with these scores in mind. After test driving vehicles over a series courses, involving everyday traffic and road conditions to get the same experience of the cars as an owner would, each vehicle and its manufacturer are scrutinized over. Each model considered will have its quality, reliability, durability, and various warranties (including bumper-to-bumper and powertrain) put into question to find if it’s worthy to land on the KBB Best Buy Awards list.
The KBB editors were sure to highlight the 2023 Kia Telluride for its stacked roster of standard safety features and convenience equipment that put it past many other competitors while providing excellent value for consumers. Also given some extra love is the Kia Seltos, said to have a “terrific value” thanks to its long list of standard tech and safety features, plus impressive fuel economy for a low starting MSRP ($23,140 plus destination fee). Then there’s the Sportage PHEV, still practically a newborn to the Kia family, and with 34 miles of all-electric range and 84 MPGe, the range is impressive for a plug-in hybrid SUV, according to KBB editors.
