The Kia EV6 GT Lands on the TIME Best Inventions of 2023 List
As the year comes closer to the end, more automotive journalists and publications are going to be rounding up the best of the best and handing out awards. Some automakers fare better than others, and with all the new ground-breaking models that came out this year, any automaker with a battery-electric vehicle (BEV) has created some buzz. Standing out amongst them all has been the Kia Corp, releasing BEV one after the other, starting with the Kia EV6 and EV9, then the EV5, and now the EV4 and EV3 concepts released during Kia’s EV Day event in Seoul. Grabbing another award for 2023, the Kia EV6 GT was recognized amongst the TIME Best Inventions of 2023 within the Transportation category.
“The EV6 GT defied expectations by combining Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy and focus on sustainable mobility with supercar power and performance…Building on the momentum from Kia America being the only automotive company in the U.S. named to the 2023 TIME100 List of Most Influential Companies, we are honored by this latest recognition for the most powerful Kia production vehicle ever.” – Steven Center, COO & EVP, Kia America
The TIME Best Inventions of 2023 list is compiled every year for the last two decades. Making up a list of over 200 extraordinary innovations, including new products and ideas, landing on the list means the produce “changes our lives”, according to TIME editors. TIME’s editors and correspondents around the world nominate products every year, and place a close eye on AI, green energy, and sustainability. Each product is then evaluated by the editors based on a several key factors, including: originality, efficacy, ambition, and impact. Things like the world’s most powerful supercomputer, a game-changing entertainment venue, and a new shape have appeared in the list – and it’s a 13-sided two-dimensional shape called the “hat”, by the way.
Like we said, this is another award for the Kia EV6 GT. Earlier this year, the EV6 GT won the coveted 2023 World Performance Car award. Riding on an electric form of all-wheel drive (e-AWD), the GT trim is powered by a 77.4 kWh battery, tweaked to generate 576 horsepower and 545 lb-ft of torque. With a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 3.4-seconds, and able to hit a top speed of 161 mph, the all-electric EV6 GT is known for speed, long-range capability, a spacious interior, and sophisticated design. The first all-electric car by Kia with no gasoline precedent, the EV6 was said to be a combination of a hatchback and a sports car. Now that Kia is designing more vehicles and concepts, we look forward to the likes of the EV4.
After the Kia Stinger was discontinued, sold in the end as the Kia Stinger Tribute Edition, the EV4 is the electric sports car to pay homage to the Stinger. The first sports car to come from Kia in a long time, the Stinger won many awards and wowed the industry, changing the game for the segment. We don’t know when Kia will produce this concept and bring it to America, but with a goal of releasing two new BEVs every year between 2023 and 2027, we’re sure to see a lot more coming from Kia in the next few years.
