The Jeep Grand Wagoneer Earns the Title of Official Winter SUV of the Year
The 2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer and its long-wheelbase counterpart, the Grand Wagoneer L, earned two prestigious titles at the annual New England Motor Press Association (NEMPA) winter vehicle competition. Jeep’s luxury SUVs are now the Official Winter SUV of the Year and the Best Premium Full-Size vehicles in their segment, making this the second consecutive year the Wagoneers received the Official Winter SUV of the Year honor. The 2023 Jeep® Grand Cherokee has also obtained a class award for the second year in a row as New England’s Best Mid-size SUV.
Every year, from November to March, NEMPA journalists bravely subject manufacturers’ vehicles through the brutal winter conditions of New England. The SUV’s endured a trial of durability, reliability, and capability. Every contender undergoes a rigorous one-day testing and scoring at NEMPA headquarters in Middleborough, Massachusetts. It’s an exciting event showcasing the best, and the competition is always fierce. The vehicles that emerge victorious are humble but deserving of recognition and praise.
“The Grand Wagoneer topped our votes for NEMPA Winter SUV of the Year and overwhelmingly won its class. There is nothing more lavish, spacious, capable off-road, or plusher on the road than the Grand Wagoneer and its extended L model. The turbo inline-six and independent rear suspension make a large and capable SUV feel nimble and confident.”
-Clifford Atiyeh, President of the New England Motor Press Association
Additionally, the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee attained the same reward for the Mid-Size SUV segment, and the lush off-roader continues to reign as the most-awarded SUV of all time.
“The last-generation Grand Cherokee was a NEMPA favorite for many years. The latest Grand Cherokee builds on the Jeep brand’s success with more luxury and space. That it’s priced competitively against premium German and Japanese SUVs while offering Jeep’s legendary four-wheel-drive capability—even as a plug-in hybrid—makes the Grand Cherokee a winner.”
-Atiyeh
“We know from experience that New England winters can be the most extreme with snow and treacherous driving conditions. To have the respected members of the New England Motor Press honor the Grand Wagoneer and the Grand Cherokee, and name the Grand Wagoneer the Official Winter SUV of the Year two years running, validates that our Jeep team continues to deliver the most capable SUVs both on-road, off-road and in the snow.”
-Jim Morrision, Senior Vice President and Head of Jeep North America
