The all-new Gladiator Gets the Mopar Treatment
By the time Spring of 2019 rolls around, Mopar will have introduced a portfolio with over 200 parts and accessories for the all-new Jeep Gladiator. Ranging from mild to wild, the parts are intended to help Jeepers personalize their rides. No surprise there, as the Gladiator is a Wrangler-based pickup and no other vehicle is open to customization the way the Wrangler is.
Steve Beahm, Mopar’s head of parts and service, stated: “The Mopar brand is bringing to market a full selection of parts and accessories for owners to personalize the all-new 2020 Jeep Gladiator to fit their individual lifestyles. We’re giving owners what they need to enhance the most capable midsize truck ever, whether that’s versatile lifestyle accessories of Jeep Performance Parts for hard-core off-roaders.” Mopar chose the 2018 LA Auto Show to debut a total of 20 pieces that are already available, with the remaining pieces scheduled to debut at the same time the pickup hits dealership lots during the second quarter of 2019.
Speaking of the LA Auto show, the Gladiator on display boasts a Jeep Performance Parts 2-inch lift kit, tube doors, rock rails, and both 5- and 7-inch LED off-road lights. On the Gladiator’s truck bed, there’s bed-mounted cross rails designed to work with a Mopar bicycle/kayak carrier, while a bed-storage system offers owners greater organization and features lockable and sliding doors for easy access. The tube doors (pictured below) add another layer of ruggedness to this visually enticing truck.
Mopar showcased a few light performance modifications as well, with a cold-air intake front and center for that extra power. A cat-back exhaust was also added to increase horsepower and torque, but the figures remain undisclosed as of now. Under the hood of all Gladiator pickups will feature the familiar Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine, capable of generating 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, and will be mated to either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The brand also showed off some other accessories like a bed ramp that shares its design with the Ram 1500, a bed liner for the five-foot steel bed, door sill guards, exterior graphics including hood graphics, Katzkin seats with an embroidered Jeep logo in Tungsten stitching, 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels, and winch-capable steel bumpers. A “Stubby” bumper is available as well, while the Rubicon trim gets its own options. All of the accessories not only function as a way for owners to personalize their pickup, but they also compliment the truck’s off-road prowess. The Sport, Sport S, and Overland trims all feature four-wheel drive and a part-time two-speed transfer case, while the high-tier Rubicon boasts a larger transfer case, Dana 44 axles with electronic differential locks, disconnecting sway bars, and 33-inch all-terrain tires that ride around on 17-inch alloy wheels.
