Jeep Changed the Wrangler Lineup for All-New Wrangler JL

April 20th, 2018 by

Jeep introduced the all-new next-generation 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL in late 2017 and the new model included a lot of changes to the Wrangler’s features and lineup. While we have discussed the Wrangler JL’s new features a few times, we haven’t discussed all the changes made to the Wrangler JL lineup, so here are the updates.

Trims

The Wrangler JK (the generation prior to the Wrangler JL) lineup consisted of several trims, and although the number of trims gave consumers a lot of options, some consumers felt overwhelmed trying to determine the differences from trim to trim. To avoid confusion, Jeep reduced the Wrangler JL trim lineup to just four different trims, and each of the trims is also available with upgrades and options to give consumers more variety when designing their new Wrangler.

The new trims include the Wrangler Sport, Sport S, Rubicon and Sahara trims. The Wrangler Sport, Sport S, and Rubicon trims are available with a two-door or four-door Wrangler, and the Sahara is only available with a four-door model.

Models

Another change to the lineup that Jeep made to help reduce confusion is that four-door and two-door Wrangler models are both called “Wrangler.” Previously, Jeep called four-door models the “Wrangler Unlimited” and two-door models the “Wrangler,” but a lot of consumers referred to both the four-door and two-door models as a “Wrangler” anyways.

Ground Clearances

Another major change to the lineup is that now all Wrangler trims have the same industry-leading ground clearance and off-road angles. The new ground clearances and angles are a ground clearance of 10.9 inches, a departure angle of 37 degrees, an approach angle of 44 degrees and a breakover angle of 27.8 degrees. Additionally, all Wrangler trims have water fording capabilities of up to 30 inches.

2018 Jeep Wrangler JL

The Jeep Wrangler JL is the most advanced and most capable Wrangler ever and the changes made to the lineup will definitely be appreciated by consumers. Other highlights of the new Wrangler JL include the addition of two engine options, a 270-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine, and two transmission options, a six-speed manual transmission and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Wrangler JL also has new roof options, including a power sliding option, as well as an upgraded Uconnect system, which provides enhanced entertainment options.
