While many know Dodge for creating some of the fastest production vehicles, those in charge of the brand know exactly what they are and what they are not. Dodge has introduced a wave of the fastest muscle cars with their newest Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger entries. They have the Dodge Journey that mixes together luxury with the capabilities of high-speed thrills in their SRT (street racing technology) trim . But where does Dodge see its self heading in the upcoming decade? More than just making an electric future a reality, those in charge have thought long and hard about where to take this high-octane brand.
“Love it or hate it, Dodge has an identity that separates it from the pack,” said Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Cars.
The State of Dodge
In 2019, cars seem to be disappearing in the automotive industry. Dodge possesses the antidote to keep a car around: make an excellent car and keep the nameplate secure by introducing muscular modifications, aesthetic treatments, and new packages. Technically, the Dodge Challenger has not updated its frame since 2008. However, the Challenger has added the Demon, Redeye, and Dodge Challenger Scat Pack 1320, among others. Fans of the Dodge brand love these high-powered muscle cars that contain over 700 horsepower, including up to 840 horsepower in the aforementioned SRT Demon. While the Demon was discontinued, the 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye boasts 797 horsepower and costs way less.
“When we did the Demon, I honest to God thought that was the muscle-car mic drop. As soon as we did it, we were like, ‘What else you got?’” said Tim Kuniskis.
Upcoming 50th Anniversary of the Dodge Challenger
There are some upcoming hallmarks Dodge is getting ready to celebrate. 2019 makes the 50th anniversary of the Dodge Challenger, we’re anticipating to see anniversary editions. In just the past ten years, Dodge has witnessed a 60 percent jump in Challenger and Charger sales, with the Challenger hitting their best sales mark ever in 2018. Regardless of the platform, there are no plans to abandon them since the demand is there. The Dodge Durango has fit the brand as a top choice for those looking for a three-row SUV that never feels like one. Will Dodge create a smaller SUV?
“I’m not going to lie to you and tell you it’s perfectly aligned with the direction that the brand’s headed. But it’s a great-looking car in a great segment that sells extremely well, so I see no problem with Journey,” remarked Tim Kuniskis.
