Dodge Was Initially an Auto Parts Company
Dodge was founded in 1900 by John Francis Dodge and Horace Elgin Dodge in Auburn Hills, Michigan. However, it was a far cry from the brand we know today, with Dodge dealerships in Miami and every other major city in the country. In fact, Dodge was initially an auto parts company. The company produced precision engines and chassis components for other automobile firms.
I t wasn’t until 1915 that the Dodge brother got involved in making automobiles with the release of the four-cylinder Dodge Model 30.
Dodge Created Vehicles for World War II
Following the United States’ entry into World War II, Dodge stepped right up and served as a reliable ally for soldiers on the battlefield. The company emerged as one of the biggest producers of war vehicles during this time, including the creation of ambulances such as the WC54 .
Even after the war ended, Dodge continued to produce manufacture pickup trucks for the military.
Dodge is a Division of Chrysler
Tragedy struck the Dodge brand in the 1920’s when both Dodge brothers passed away, leaving the future of the company unknown. However, in 1928, Dodge was sold to the Chrysler Corporation and has remained a division of Chrysler Group LLC ever since.
The Dodge brand has also undergone several ownership changes over the years but nonetheless has survived to produce automobiles of the highest quality.
