All-New UConnect System is More Advanced than Ever Before

October 5th, 2016 by

For the 2017 model year, Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is introducing a fourth-generation Uconnect system. The new system will be available on several FCA vehicles including 2017 the Chrysler 300, the Dodge Charger and the Dodge Challenger. Additionally, 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee models with a 8.4-inch touchscreen will have a new off-roading function in Uconnect.

Perhaps the biggest news regarding the upgraded UConnect 8.4 systems is that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will now be accessible. With the new technology, drivers will be able to sync their Apple or Android smartphone to the car so the driver can access certain phone features via the 8.4-inch touch screen, or by Siri Voice control for Apple CarPlay and with the steering wheel controls for Android Auto.

Another upgrade introduced to the fourth generation Uconnect 8.4 system is the touch screen. The screen remains 8.4 inches, but it will now be a higher resolution screen that displays sharper and more vivid imagery than ever before. The screens will also be able to interpret more touch gestures such as pinching, tapping, and swiping for easier access.

The new off-roading feature coming to 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee models with UConnect 8.4 is Off-Roading pages. Off-roading Pages provides drivers with stats and information about their vehicle’s off-roading systems, including the vehicle’s drivetrain, suspension, and Selec-Terrain drive modes. Access to this information will help drivers monitor the diagnostics of each system and will indicate when fluids may need to be replaced or when the systems should be looked at.
