Chrysler 3.6-liter Pentastar Engine in All Chrysler Models
All three Chrysler models, the Pacifica, Pacifica Hybrid and 300, all have a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine. However, each vehicle is a little bit different and all three vehicles have different transmissions and/or other systems that give the vehicle a different horsepower, torque and fuel economy. Read below for all of the ways the engines and specs differ from one another.
The Chrysler 300 with the the 3.6-liter V6 24-valve VVT engine comes standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission. With this engine, the Chrysler 300 produces 300 horsepower and 264 lb-ft of torque, which is a significant amount of horsepower for a “standard” engine. But, just because the Chrysler 300 is powerful doesn’t mean it’s not fuel efficient. When equipped with the 3.6L engine, the Chrysler 300 has a fuel economy of 19 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. In addition, the 3.6-liter engine can be paired with a rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive drivetrain.
Next up, the Chrysler Pacifica . The Chrysler Pacifica is one of the most fuel efficient vehicles in its class (19 mpg in the city and 28 mph on the highway) and it is also very powerful (287 horsepower with a maximum towing capacity of 3,600 pounds) and that is thanks to the vehicle’s engine engineering. The Pacifica is equipped with a 3.6L V6 24-valve VVT engine that features ESS (engine start-stop) technology. ESS is a fuel efficiency feature that makes it possible for the engine to turn off when the engine is idling, and that helps to conserve fuel. Another reason for the Pacifica’s great fuel economy is its class-exclusive 9-speed automatic transmission, and that also contributes to the minivan’s excellent towing capabilities.
Finally, there is the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid , and it is an extremely fuel efficient vehicle. The Pacifica Hybrid is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), so it has an internal combustion engine and motors that are powered by a battery. As a PHEV, the Pacifica Hybrid can be powered by just its engine, just the battery or a combination of both.
Like the other Chrysler models, the Pacifica Hybrid is equipped with a 3.6-liter V6 engine, but engineers modified it to use a special combustion-cycle system called the Atkinson combustion-cycle system. The Atkinson combustion-cycle system increases fuel efficiency because it reduces pumping losses during the combustion cycle.
When powered by the modified 3.6L V6 internal combustion engine, the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid has a combined city/highway fuel economy of 32 mpg, which is significantly more than 20.9 mpg combined city/highway, which is the average of all other minivans. In addition to being powered only by the internal combustion engine, the Pacifica Hybrid can be powered by its battery, which gives the Pacifica Hybrid a total driving range of 33 miles, and when the Pacifica Hybrid’s engine and battery work together, the Pacifica Hybrid has an average fuel economy of 84 MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent). Oh, and despite being hybrid, the van still produces 260 horsepower!
