Chevy May Beat Tesla at Their Own Game – Miami Lakes Automall Chevrolet
Chevy has built a reputation based on quality and affordability. One of the ways they’ve been able to achieve this is with their cutting edge innovations. They are the first manufacturer to offer built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi on their new vehicle line. Whether you are looking for a dependable pickup or a stylish sedan, Chevy has attractive options for you with the innovations you want.
Introducing the Bolt
Chevy plans to bolster their vehicle line in the coming years. One vehicle that is generating much attention is the Chevy Bolt. Chevy announced the development of the Bolt this week. The Bolt strives to be an affordable electric option that will compete with Tesla’s Model 3.
Tesla has established a firm grip on the electric vehicle market. One of the reasons for this is the range they offer on their vehicles. For example, the Tesla Model S can run up to 265 miles. However, with this long range, comes a big price, as the Model S cost $100,000. Tesla plans to unveil a more affordably priced vehicle the Model 3, which would run around 200 miles on a single charge and costs $40,000. The current plan is for them to have it out in a few years, around the same time Chevy plans to have the Bolt ready to go.
Affordability and Long Range
When Chevy designed the Bolt, they had Tesla’s idea in mind: an electric vehicle that runs around 200 miles on a single charge. That aside, Chevy strives to deliver an electric car that more people can afford. Mary Barra, General Motors CEO told Wired that the new Bolt would start at a price of $30,000, which includes the $7,500 tax credit for buying the electric vehicle. In addition, the plan is for the Bolt to hit dealerships by 2017, according to the Detroit Free Press . Wired reports this target date would be around the same time Tesla wants to release their Model 3.
Range Enhancements
Chevy is able to achieve this lower costs through design and exceptional engineering. The Bolt uses lightweight materials such as carbon fiber and aluminum, which helps increase the vehicle’s range. Further, the rear spoiler and aerodynamic design also will work to help the Bolt achieve better range. Additionally, Chevy has been working on a longer lasting battery since the 90s. At this time, they are have not revealed specific details on the Bolt’s battery.
This is an excellent idea by Chevy especially if they can have the Bolt to dealerships around the same time as Tesla. Not only will they have an electric vehicle that can compete with the best, they will have an electric vehicle that is more affordable and will appeal to a wider customer base thereby making Chevy once again an exceptional brand to buy due to their commitment to quality and affordability.
