What Does Your Chevy Like to Eat? | Chevy Dealers Miami

If you haven’t already heard the news, Chevy dealers in Miami are taking it back to the future with a new Impala for 2015. Like the infamous DeLorean, this Impala will be able to run off leftovers, beer, and waste.

In the company’s latest innovative move toward finding sustainable solutions for their vehicles, Chevrolet is fueling up with biogas . It’s derived from the methane gas that’s produced when food scraps break down.

It ends up as a renewable, alternative natural gas. Right now it’s being produced by a company called Quasar Energy Group in Cleveland. They get their waste from a number of different sources including Anheuser-Busch.

The president of Quasar Energy said “If you can buy renewable fuel at $1.95 per gallon while reducing greenhouse gas emissions, everybody wins.”

There do seem to be quite a few benefits here. But one drawback that was raising concern was, as usual, the refueling infrastructure.

Automotive producers are fighting it out to determine which gasoline alternatives will be the most efficient and sustainable. Some are rooting for hydrogen, some are emphasizing more diesel, and plug-ins have obviously become a popular option too.

There are a few states that have stations to support these substitutes. However, until the rest of American gets on board and makes them the norm, refueling locations will remain limited.

With that in mind, Chevy came up with a solution to avoid pushback about lack of access to biogas. They have made the Impala capable of running off of gasoline as well.

So drivers can feel confident that they won’t be stuck in between biogas fills. And the bi-fuel vehicle will have an impressive range of 500 miles.

This scrap-hungry Impala should be on sale later this year, and the starting price is set at $38,210. The other exciting part of the deal is that it will be covered by Chevy’s standard warranty.

That’s highly unusual for a vehicle like this, and the Impala will actually be the only bi-fuel sedan in the industry to be sold with a factory warranty.
